Happy Birthday PSP

Sony is today celebrating the fifth birthday of it’s Playstation Portable, which was released March 24th in 2005. To date, the portable device has sold 17 million units in the US alone.

SCEA vice president Peter Dille had the following to say.

“Today, the PSP system is a well-established handheld platform that continuously redefines portable entertainment with quality that’s unparalleled. As PSP celebrates its fifth anniversary, the best is yet to come. We’re very excited about the vibrant 2010 lineup and are committed to continuing to offer entertainment experiences and immersive gameplay only possible on the PlayStation platform.”

Since 2005 the PSP has evolved multiple times, with different models being made available. From the PSP2000 to the PSP3000 to the PSPGo. Today the PSP has much more functionality than it did back in 2005. Users can access PSN through the PSP and have access to thousands of digital downloadable material. What does the future hold for the PSP? I think the only way they can go is up, give us the PSP 2 already Sony.
