The Best Games Of 2011: The Conduit 2

The Conduit 2

Positioned as “the Wii’s answer to Halo”, 2009’s The Conduit was a disappointing, generic shooter which would have seemed outdated even on the original Xbox. Featuring repetitive gameplay, terrible voice acting, uninspired level design and a story straight from a low budget SyFi movie, The Conduit received middling reviews and was forgotten about soon after it’s overhyped launch. However none of The Conduit’s shortcomings were due to lack of effort, throughout the game’s development High Voltage Software were determined to make Conduit the most robust game the Wii has ever had. That meant online modes, Wii Speak support and an overwhelming amount freedom to customize both the controls and gameplay HUD. Unfortunately the underlying game was terrible and involved little more than traipsing from corridor to room, back to corridor, shooting generic aliens who spawn from portals. For the sequel High Voltage have gone back to the drawing board and will be replacing the sub-serious plot of the first game with super soldiers, big guns and even bigger explosions! I feel slightly reserved calling The Conduit one of the best games of 2011 since the first game was such a bitter disappointment but I’m willing to offer High Voltage a chance to redeem themselves. I just hope I don’t get burned twice.
