EA Announces Multi Year Deal With UFC

EA’s E3 2012 press briefing just wrapped up and they managed to announce the first megaton announcement, as well as handing THQ a major L. EA Sports announced a multi year deal with the UFC to produce the next set of UFC games. UFC President Dana White was there to make the announcement and share his excitement about the new deal. Some people may have never thought this day would come considering some of Dana White’s comments back in 2009 when EA Sports announced an MMA game of their own:

“I went to EA Sports. Know what EA Sports said? ‘It’s not a sport. This isn’t a sport. We would never get involved in something like this.’ We come out with a video game and now they want to come out with a video game? (Expletive) you. All these people that want to cry and bitch, EA Sports didn’t give a (expletive) about you and wouldn’t even touch this thing with a 10-foot pole. We went out and made this whole thing happen. THQ basically put their entire business on the line. If this game didn’t work, they were in big trouble.”

As a huge UFC fan, I’m excited that UFC is partnering with the leader in sports games. I’m a little skeptical because THQ and UFC already had something great going with the Undisputed series. Hopefully EA Sports can make a game better or at least on the same caliber as the Undisputed games. Now all we need is for EA Sports to snatch the WWE game license from THQ.
