Sony’s New Playstation Plus Initiative Gives Subscribers Up To 12 Free Games!

As someone who is more than happy with their Playstation Plus subscription, I wouldn’t have thought Sony needed to add even more value to the service. Apparently the platform holder disagrees with me however, as they will now be offering full retail games to subscribers at no extra cost!

Starting today (tomorrow in Europe), Plus subscribers will be able to download the following games which will be free to play for the duration of their subscription;

inFAMOUS 2
LittleBigPlanet 2
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
Virtua Fighter 5 (PS+ GAME OF THE MONTH)

Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One (USA ONLY)
Just Cause 2 (USA ONLY)
Saints Row 2 (USA ONLY)
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light (USA ONLY)
Hard Corp: Uprising (USA ONLY)
Choplifter HD (USA ONLY)
Zombie Apocalypse Never Die Alone (USA ONLY)
Sideway NY (USA ONLY)

Motorstorm Apocalypse (EUROPE ONLY)
Darksiders (EUROPE ONLY)
Renegade Ops (EUROPE ONLY)
Outland (EUROPE ONLY)
Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD (EUROPE ONLY)
Chime Super Deluxe (EUROPE ONLY)

(Please note: the video above showcases the European games only)

Every six weeks (four week for Europe) Sony will select a new Playstation Game Of The Month which is said to “highlight the very best that PSN has to offer” and as Jack Tretton pointed out during Sony’s press conference, new games will be rotated in and out frequently.

Sony are also introducing PlayStation®Plus Presents which will give subs free access to indy games, the first of which is a  brand new shooter called Retro/Grade.

Gone are the free Playstation Classic and Minis that many subscribers have become accustomed to but Plus still offers a range of exclusive features including discounts on select games and DLC, a host of free themes and avatars, early access to demos and betas, automatic cloud saves, automatic firmware/game patch downloads and full game trials which allows you to sample a number of retail games for 60 minutes each.

If all of this still isn’t enough to convince you to upgrade to Playstation Plus then you should probably just sell your PS3 now. Playstation Plus is available now for as little as $4.16 a month. For more details please check out your respective Playstation Blog (US) (EUROPE).
