Notch Puts 0x10c On Hold

Mojang’s big project 0x10c is being put on hold by the company as Notch says the game is “not really fun yet” and has been experiencing a creative block.

If you are not aware of 0x10c here is a quick rundown of the games premise and story.

“A brand new deep sleep cell was released, compatible with all popular 16 bit computers. Unfortunately, it used big endian, whereas the DCPU-16 specifications called for little endian. This led to a severe bug in the included drivers, causing a requested sleep of 0x0000 0000 0000 0001 years to last for 0x0001 0000 0000 0000 years.”

Here is what Notch revealed about 0x10c in an interview with Polygon:

“It [releasing] depends if it’s just going to be me and I’m going to still feel this kind of weird pressure, it’s not really pressure, it’s just some kind of weird creative block that’s been going on for too long, and [0x10c] is going to be put on ice until we can fix that. I’m very excited about the actual game. We have two prototypes going on now. It’s not really fun yet, but it feels like it could be fun because there’s nothing to do in there yet.”

It’s unfortunate that their game is not fun yet, funnily enough he explains that he is using Minecraft to make as much money as possible in order to compensate if their future games disappoint, so I’m sure he won’t be worrying too much, he is a multi-millionaire after all.
