The Order: 1886’s New London Sounds Compelling

The Order: 1886 was one of the most interesting concepts to come out of E3 this year, the sound of new technology mixed with the past of 1886 sounded intriguing and unique. Today we received more details about how the technology has changed the London of the past and it certainly seems fascinating.

In a blogpost over at PlayStation Blog, Ru Weerasuriya CEO and Creative Director of developer Ready At Dawn Studios explained a bit about the New London and provided some nice screenshots of the game.

“This Neo-Victorian London will seem familiar to everyone, however, advances in technology will take center stage in many ways as you navigate the city. One of the main examples is the advent of electricity throughout the city, well before its time. Gas lamps are replaced by electric street lights. Everywhere you go, you can hear the hum of electricity running through the city.

The other big change you will witness is in the skyline of London. Although the familiar sights of Big Ben, St. Paul’s, and the Tower Bridge are present, the skyline is broken up by watch towers. Their searchlights are constantly scanning the city and the skies. The other change in the skyline is the presence of airship mooring towers. In The Order: 1886, London is patrolled day and night by a squadron of dirigibles called the Sentinels. All of these are a constant reminder that the world is not as it seems.”

Even with this little description I already want to play this game. The Ne0-Victorian London style could be amazing and I hope the fantastic setting is backed up by a great story. I believe this game has the potential to be great, I just hope Ready At Dawn can take the pressure of making a console exclusive game of this size.

The Order 1886 is coming exclusively to the PS4 and does not currently have a release date.
