5 Games To Help You Survive The Heatwave

As I sit here in my vest and shorts sweating away half of my body fluid, the realisation hit me that the past two weeks have most likely been the hottest ever in the United Kingdom. There has been record braking temperatures of up to 33.5C (92.3F) at Heathrow and Northolt in London thanks to the heatwave.

I’m in the mood to game, but I’m just too damned hot to have the patience for it. But wait, there are games that can help me survive this ungodly heat. Five of them come to mind as I type this, and perhaps you (the reader) will help us discover some more heat drenching video games.

Mortal Kombat

Playing Mortal Kombat 9 seems like a fantastic idea right now. Not only is it my favourite fighting game this generation, but Sub-Zero’s Iceball is exactly what I need to cool down. I’d even run into his Ice Clone a few times. Though I don’t think you can actually class that as surviving the heatwave.

Batman Arkham City

I’m a huge fan of Batman, and I’m excited of the recent news that he’ll face off against the near perfect being that is Superman in 2015. However, right now this heat is frying my mind so badly that I can’t even think about tomorrow never mind two years from now. In which case a session on Batman: Arkham City will hold me over for a while. I’m sure the Mr. Freeze boss fight will be more than enough to help me cool off, so I can continue to imagine Batman kicking Superman’s red arse.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Uncharted 2 could cool me down any day.
When I think of Uncharted 2, I think of Chloe. Actually, what I meant to say was when I think of Uncharted I think of ice, and this is mainly thanks to the icy mountains from which the game begins in. Which is actually a flashback scene of a part of the game you play later on. Either way, playing any of the Uncharted games is never a bad idea, no matter what the weather is like.

Heavy Rain

Can heavy rain crush the heatwave?
Man, what I wouldn’t give for some Heavy Rain right now. I would like nothing more than to blackout, waking up hours later in the dark during a heavy shower from the skies. The good thing is that unlike Ethan Mars, I don’t have kids to watch out for. In which case, standing in the middle of the street, shouting in the rain doesn’t actually sound like that bad of an idea.

SSX

SSX is a cool game to play during the heatwave
Not only is SSX a hell of a cool game to play, but it also sends you on a mission to conquer nine of the deadliest (and coldest) descent’s across the world. Seriously, this is a great time to play right now as it doesn’t require too much concentration. And if you’re anything like me, concentration doesn’t come along often when you’re burning alive in your bedroom.

So how about it, can you think of anymore games to help us switch off from almost unbearable heat? Or perhaps you’ll be the first wiseguy to give us the advice of going outside? Either way, feel free to express your comments below.
