No ZombiU Sequel: “Not Even Close” To Being Profitable

It looks like the Wii U’s popular British-zombie-killing video game ZombiU will not be getting a sequel due to the game not being profitable.

In an article by GI.biz; Yves Guillemot is quoted to have said as much, check out an extract below:

“Yves Guillemot, Chairman and CEO of Ubisoft, is typically one of the biggest proponents of new systems, but betting big on the Wii U didn’t work out well for the company. ZombiU, one of the most popular launch titles for the system with players, was not profitable, he says. Not even close. As such, he says, there are no plans (or even desire) for a sequel.

It was, in fact, because of that game’s performance that Ubisoft decided to make Rayman Legends a multiplatform game.”

For a title that was being heavily marketed and pushed as a system seller for the Wii U it is very surprising to hear that the game was not profitable, the series had definite potential and it was a refreshing take on the much overplayed zombie genre.

Hopefully one day they can make a sequel but this time make it multiplatform, creating a game for just one system is such a big risk and unless you’re Naughty Dog it can be a very difficult thing to get right.

Let me know in the comments if you played ZombiU and whether you’ll be sad that there’ll never be a sequel, or not!
