Sony President Yoshida Disappointed By PS4 Reception

Sony President Shuhei Yoshida has spoken of his disappointment at the poor reviews and reception of the PS4 and it’s games.

Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, Yoshida spoke about his reaction to the negativity in the press:

“Yeah, it’s disappointing to see some of the low scores. I haven’t spent enough time reading reviews, but I would characterize them as mixed. With this launch there are lots of games coming out, so the media must be very busy going through the games quickly, and especially since the online functionality wasn’t ready until in the last couple days. So we have to look at how much time they spend on what aspect of the games and how that may be contributing to some of the lower scores.”

“It’s disappointing but I don’t think it’s worrisome for the launch of the system. I’ve played through all of our games, Killzone, Knack and Resogun, and I totally enjoyed playing through these games. I’m now on my second run of Knack and Resogun at a higher difficulty – these games really grow on you when you play more.”

“I’m very confident that once you purchase these games and play, you’ll be happy that you’ve done so.”

Launch games are always a very tricky thing, you need them to sell the system to people but they are also the first games to come out on an untried system, which leads to them often being poor. I’m honestly surprised by a lot of the press with their PS4 reviews, the hype and positivity about the PS4 over the Xbox One has been suffocating for the past few months and the lower scores prove that a lot of the press is still capable of being honest.

I’m sure when better games come to the system then Yoshida can stop being disappointed. It is the games that make the system, unfortunately making games takes time, so a lot of patience is needed.

The PlayStation 4 is out in just a few hours in North America.
