The Elder Scrolls Online Doesn’t Require PS Plus, However XBL Gold Needed On Xbox One

Subscription based MMO The Elder Scrolls Online will not need an additional subscription to the online service PS Plus on PlayStation, however Xbox Live Gold will be required on the Xbox One version of the game.

Microsoft has famously been strict about making things free without Xbox Live Gold and it seems that they have taken a turn for the worst by making people pay two subscriptions in order to play The Elder Scrolls Online, not only do they need to pay the monthly fee of the game but also the monthly fee of Xbox Live Gold. A hefty payment if you just want to play that game.

PlayStation Blog confirmed that the PlayStation version of the game does not require a PS Plus membership:

“A PlayStation Plus membership is not required to play The Elder Scrolls Online, PS4 players will only be required to pay the same monthly subscription associated with The Elder Scrolls Online that PC and Mac users will pay – nothing more.”

It is a shame that Microsoft can not be more lenient to MMOs on their strict policy, people already have to pay to play the game and they should not have to pay even more to Microsoft on top of that. I can’t imagine anyone now choosing the Xbox One version over the PC or PS3/PS4 versions unless they already have Xbox Live Gold for a long period of time.

What do you think of The Elder Scrolls Online needing Xbox Live Gold? Should Microsoft make an exception for MMOs? Let me know in the comments below.
