Five Amiibos Nintendo Needs to Make

Written by on

Nintendo has a very big plan for their Amiibo line of figures with games like Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, and future releases next year. The first few waves of Amiibos consist of characters that appear in Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, each with different capabilities with various games.

Yet after all the Smash Bros. characters have been given figures for gamers to buy, Nintendo will need to turn elsewhere in their massive well of franchised characters. Where does Nintendo go next with Amiibo? I have a few ideas of characters that need to be given the Amiibo treatment in order for Nintendo’s plan to be fruitful in the long run.

For the longest time, Nintendo fans have always wanted more tangible collectibles based of their favorite franchises. Amiibos are planned to work on both Nintendo Wii U and the New 3DS models due out in Spring 2015. These Amiibos can be based off many different characters from Nintendo’s legacy of games throughout the years, ranging from NES to their more modern platforms. The wide range Nintendo can pull from will allow them to compete with both Disney Infinity and Skylander figures.

Here are five suggestions for Amiibo figures I feel Nintendo should bring into the Amiibo toy line.

SkullKid

Skull Kid

Majora’s Mask is getting a 3DS remake next spring. It is a game that many gamers have awaited for a long time since Ocarina of Time 3D released on Nintendo 3DS. To give an even bigger push for the release of the game, it would make plenty of sense for Nintendo to acknowledge this by creating an Amiibo figure for one of the later lines based off Majora’s Mask.

However, just putting any character from the game would not effectively take advantage of the hype behind the game’s release. Although having an Amiibo based off the Fierce Deity Link, or any of his other transformations from the game would be pretty neat, the Skull Kid wearing the famed mask is the more recognizable image that gamers associate with the game. What better way than to have a Skull Kid Amiibo in the same pose from the promotional materials of Majora’s Mask 3D.

Ridley-Super-Smash-Bros

Ridley

With his special appearance in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Ridley has caused quite a stir among fans of the game. The big cry from Nintendo fans was the need to have a playable Ridley, which was shot down due to technical and balance limitations for the game. However, this doesn’t mean that Nintendo can’t capitalize on Ridley’s popularity by creating an Amiibo for fans to purchase.

It would be interesting to see a special kind of Ridley to battle in Super Smash Bros. that could be obtained from scanning a Ridley Amiibo. If such a thing isn’t possible, then some extra goodies that are Metroid related could be obtained in any of Nintendo’s Amiibo compatible games. Either way, we want to see a Ridley Amiibo figure. Who doesn’t want to see this baddie have an awesome figure to add to everyone’s collection?

Captain Toad

Captain Toad

Captain Toad is one of the more unorthodox Mario-related titles being released on the Wii U. It’s not the norm when a Mario universe related character gets to star in their own title — one of which that doesn’t fall to some of the series’ other main staples Luigi or Princess Peach.

Having an Amiibo figure for Captain Toad will bring more shine to the stand-alone game and show everyone that even Nintendo’s minor characters can be a big deal when given the spotlight. Those who were fans of Toad in Mario Kart or New Super Mario Brothers would definitely be happy to see the little guy showcased in his new element.

Miis

Miis

There is a strong possibility that Nintendo will offer the chance for fans to get custom Amiibos based off their Mii characters. But even if that wasn’t fully realized, having basic Mii characters as Amiibo figures would be perfect to have. They could possibility work over multiple games that utilize Mii’s in their gameplay, opening up rewards like extra costumes or bonuses specifically for your Mii character.

Ideally, everyone would want to have a custom Amiibo based off their Mii character to carry from game to game. This adds a level of personalization and unique experience to each individual Nintendo fan. If this hasn’t already been explored, then Nintendo should jump on this idea right away.

King K Rool

King K. Rool

The Donkey Kong County series has gotten a bit more exposure with the release of games like Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze. One of the classic characters from that series is Donkey Kong’s arch villain King K. Rool, who appeared in a bunch of games, including Donkey Kong 64. For a long time now, fans have asked for King K. Rool to be a playable character in a Super Smash Bros. game. Such a thing hasn’t happened, and the big king has taken a back seat to different baddies in the more recent Donkey Kong Country games.

Yet King K. Rool can still be relevant with Nintendo creating an Amiibo figure and having it give Donkey Kong series related extras in their games. It would be awesome to finally see King K. Rool finally step into the ring and team up with villains like King Dedede, Ganondorf, and Bowser. Having an Amiibo figure of him may just be the right thing to test the waters.
