The Playlist | #7

The last week was a heavy time for drops, from the underground to the mainstream. It seems we’re on the cusp of a solid fall/winter and artists are starting to make their moves.

Run The Jewels, comprised of El-P and Killer Mike, were one of the first to cause a ruckus, dropping their single “Blockbuster Night Part 1”. The self titled debut from the duo was a pleasant, free surprise and the 2nd project is already sounding dope.

It’s no secret that artist QuESt is making waves in hip hop, but VMG head Logic has finally started to release some music himself. The Childish Gambino featured “Driving Ms. Daisy” is a fun listen that makes one hope for more collabs between the two.

Chicago artists continues to run things with 3 appearances on this week’s playlist. Lil Herb taps into two eras of hip hop by recruiting Common and Chance The Rapper for his “Fight or Flight” Remix. Mick Jenkins makes an appearance with one of the dopest songs from his mixtape The Water[s]. On “Martyrs”, Jenkins lyrically assaults the status quo and the incredible track earns Song of the Week.

Finally, for our Video of the Week, Lupe Fiasco recruits fellow Chicago natives Common and Jennifer Hudson for “Remission”, the remix to his Tetsuo & Youth debut single.

Be sure to listen and let us know what tracks stood out to you, who you’d like to hear more of, and what artists should appear next week. Thank you for listening!
