The Playlist | Week 4

For some of us, school is sneaking up but don’t let that get you down. Check #ThePlaylist and vibe with the Koalition crew!

An artist that has made a couple appearances already, Russ drops off a few bars over the “Hail Mary” instrumental in his tribute to one of the greats. Titled “Tupac”, the song also serves as a call to arms for other artists.

A new entry to The Playlist is another Chicago native, Kembe X, whom I discovered while listening to Playlist alumni Alex Wiley. He actually hits the list twice, with TDE artist Isaiah Rashad joining him on “Caged Bird” and Rashad’s label mate Ab-Soul joining for “As I Unfold”. With Toyota making a major push with its in house label, Scion AV, it looks like Kembe X will be a household name before fall.

QuESt makes his 3rd consecutive entry during the media push for his upcoming album Searching Sylvan, this time dropping a gritty banger with “Lost Niggas”. He’s on a tear right now and, along with Kembe X, will be making major waves before the year is out.

Song of the Week go to Rhymesayers group Dilated Peoples with their new single “Show Me The Way” featuring Aloe Blacc. It’ll be featured on their new album Directors of Photography which is looking to contribute to a year that is getting significantly stronger for Hip Hop on the tail end.

Video of the Week is Dom Kennedy‘s “After School” from his Get Home Safely project that actually dropped last October. The new video is of a minimalist nature, but the vibe is undeniable.
