Chibi-Robo Zip Lashes to 3DS

Thank you very much Mr. Roboto...

With E3 only a few weeks away, it seems fair to think that Nintendo would be gearing up most of their gaming announcements to their digital event at the show. In their typical surprising fashion however, Nintendo posted a Micro-Direct video detailing a series of games coming to the west. All of the games were originally detailed in the Japanese Nintendo Direct that was posted before, but it seemed ideal that most of the games would make their way out west to American audiences. One of the games stars a small robot that first made his appearance on the Nintendo Gamecube in Chibi-Robo.

Even though Chibi-Robo is making a small return after being forgotten since the Gamecube era, the new game Chibi-Robo Zip Lash is doing big things for Nintendo 3DS. The game is an action platformer that centers on Chibi-Robo using his plug as a whip to get around obstacles and fight enemies. Chibi-Robo can swing his power plug to smack groups of enemies blocking his path, destroy boxes, and even bounce the plug off walls and platforms to solve puzzles. The power plug can also be upgraded when Chibi-Robo collects various orbs that change the power plug’s properties.

In addition to the new game, Chibi-Robo Zip Lash will also be getting an amiibo for release. This amiibo is exclusive to a bundle with the game that can be purchased on release day. Tapping the amiibo on the 3DS screen will allow Chibi-Robo to power up with stronger abilities and speed to get pass levels. As you use the amiibo functionality and complete levels, you can gain experience and level up the Chibi-Robo amiibo. Nintendo hasn’t revealed all of the amiibo functionality as of yet, but promises to detail more in the months to come.

Chibi-Robo Zip Lash is set for release in October 2015. So far what has been shown about the game is very interesting and will offer a fresh experience to the 3DS library. Amiibo hunters might be a little annoyed at having to buy the game bundle to get their hands on the new figure, but the package is looking to be a pretty sweet deal.
