/// Sony has Plans for Horizon Zero Dawn Merchandise!

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe believes its new action game, Horizon Zero Dawn, has the potential to make waves in the licensing space next year.

David Evans, European licensing manager at SCEE, claims the game presents “an incredible licensing opportunity” and has all the factors in place to be a hit brand in 2016.

“The epic feel of the game, its breathtaking visuals, strong character development, imaginative combat sequences and the marketing weight of the PS4 release all combine to make this a hot property for 2016,” said Evans.

“Guerilla Games have created a lush post-apocalyptic world that players simply won’t want to leave and licensed merchandise offers consumers a way to extend that extraordinary experience into their everyday lives.”

SCEE is looking to bring the brand to categories including toys, collectibles, apparel, accessories, publishing and stationery, with consumer products set to launch from Q4 2016.

The firm will be showcasing Horizon Zero Dawn at BLE 2015 next week, on stand F050.

/// Naughty Dog: 80% of PS4 Owners Have Never Played Uncharted!

Speaking with MCV about Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, which is out today in Europe and on Friday in North America, Naughty Dog Community Strategist Eric Monacelli revealed that 80% of PS4 owners have never played an Uncharted game:

It’s pretty massive. We did a lot of research and discovered that about 80 per cent of the people that own a PS4 have never played Uncharted, period. That was one of the reasons why we thought remastering it would be a good idea.

The other reason is we decided we wanted to do it; especially when we got The Last of Us Remastered done, we thought, ‘Oh man, this would be cool if we could go back.’

In terms of sales, Monacelli says expectations for The Nathan Drake Collection are high, and they expect it “to do as well as The Last of Us Remastered,” which sold more than one million copies as of September 2014. [Source]

/// Shuhei Yoshida Teases First and Third Party Announcements Coming at Sony’s Paris Games Week Press Conference!

Teasing some more details about their Paris Games Week plans, Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida was interviewed in the latest episode of the PS I Love You podcast. Here’s what he had to say:

In terms of positioning of the press conference for Paris Games Week, it’s exactly the position that we used to have for gamescom. So, you can look back on what we did for gamescom in the past. We actually announced many games from both first-parties and third-parties.

Going a little further, Shuhei adds that, while he doesn’t quite know why, they tend to use gamescom as a way to announce “more interesting, smaller developer, out-there ideas.” Looking back at gamescom 2014, Sony unveiled a bunch of titles, including WiLD, The Tomorrow Children, Alienation, Hollowpoint, DayZ, and more. /// Capcom: “Please Stay Tuned” for News on Resident Evil 7!

From Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata:

Q: They say that the Resident Evil series is losing its horror touch. What are your thoughts on this?

A: Since there’s been more spinoff titles, I can see how it can be perceived in such a way. And of course I believe that we should produce titles that bring out the horror. I’m thinking about it and also preparing for it.

Q: Will there be any HD versions for Resident Evil 2, 3, and Outbreak?

A: The hurdle is high, but we’d like to respond to as much demand as possible. [Note: Resident Evil 2’s remake was recently approved.]

Q: And what about Resident Evil 7?

A: We’re currently not at a state to talk about it… but please stay tuned.

The following is from Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi.

Q: What about plans for a new Devil May Cry or a new offline Dragon’s Dogma?

A: They’re also things I’d like to personally do, but there are no plans [for now].
