Your Cheating Heart Will Make You Weep: Blizzard Bans Over 100,000 World of Warcraft Accounts

Calling all World of Warcraft cheaters, your day might soon come to an end. Blizzard has declared war and their weapon of slaughter is the banhammer for players who use bots to automate their gameplay.

We’ve recently taken action against a large number of World of Warcraft accounts that were found to be using third-party programs that automate gameplay, known as “bots.” We’re committed to providing an equal and fair playing field for everyone in World of Warcraft, and will continue to take action against those found in violation of our Terms of Use. Cheating of any form will not be tolerated.

According to this posting, the suspension will last six months and so far has affect more than 100,000 accounts.

For anyone confused as to what “botting” is, World of Warcraft Community Manager Micah “Bashiok” Whipple described it as:  automation of any action, not just character movement. If a program is pressing keys for you, you’ve violated the ToU.

Blizzard doesn’t look like they are stopping anytime soon, so for those who think they’ve gotten away with their cheating ways…your day will come….eventually.
