SSX: Deadly Descents will pit riders versus both mountain and man. Players will explore the story of a team who seek to be the first to descend the faces of the most treacherous mountain ranges on the planet. The team will travel the world to face the worst that Mother Nature can throw at them. From the peaks of the Himalayas, where the air is so thin that riders have to descend through the death zone at breakneck speeds to keep from blacking out, to the solid ice ranges of Antarctica, where a sunlit line is the only survival option when temperatures drop 50 degrees centigrade in the shade. And the mountain isn’t the only danger players will face. In SSX: Deadly Descents the first goal is to survive. The second, in true SSX fashion, is to look good doing it.

SSX: Deadly Descents is in development at EA Canada and will ship under the EA Sports brand, and not the old skool EA Big brand (anyone remember that?). It will be available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime next year. Sorry Wii and PC gamers, no SSX madness for you.

The press release told us the game will have two modes of play, the first of pretty much follows the “Night Springs” TV show which if you have played the original game you should find familiar. The second mode is called “Fight till Dawn” and as is the way with todays games is a sort of horde mode where you have to take on waves and waves of enemies while trying to survive until dawn. There was no mention of multiplayer in “Fight till Dawn”, but there will be online leaderboard which should aid you on bragging to your friends.

Alan Wake’s American Nightmare will be published by Microsoft Studios and will be available for Xbox Live Arcade in mid Q1 2012. The game is rated T for Teen by the ESRB. Please keep an eye out for updates on Facebook www.facebook.com/alanwake and Twitter @Remedygames.

Inugami:
Wielding the mythical Kusanagi samurai sword rumored to have killed ten thousand innocents, Inugami is a dark and mentally unstable character with revenge-driven motives against The Brotherhood and their allies for the slaughter of his entire family. He can also use a swarm of miniature demons to attack and immobilize his enemies.

Shoshanna:
Shoshanna is an ultra-efficient agent for Mossad, the Israeli Intelligence Agency, who was sent to New York to combat a spike in Brotherhood activity. Her obedience and devotion to her superiors makes her a perfect operative, and she harbors a passion for hunting and destroying evil in the world as part of her legacy. Shoshanna wields the Arm of the Night, a powerful weapon fueled with Dark essence and the power to fire multiple rounds of gunfire at one time.

Jimmy Wilson:
A product of inner-city Glasgow, Scotland, and a notorious alcoholic, Jimmy believes The Brotherhood is simply another form of the Hated English that persecuted his family in the past, and he travels to New York to torment them to the fullest extent. He wields the Dark Axe, and has the ability to summon Darklings that he commonly refers to as “Little Jimmys”.

J.P. DuMond:
A former doctor from New Orleans, DuMond is burdened with guilt for using a form of Louisiana Voodoo to heal his patients. The use of dark magic drew the attention of The Brotherhood, an organization which J.P. is now forced to combat in order to halt their pursuit of evil relics. J.P. wields the Midnight Stick and can pull enemies into an anatomy-crushing vortex when he tosses his Box of Tricks – a black metal box filled with dark power – into an open area.

The Darkness 2 will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 PC on February 7, 2012 in North America and February 10, 2012 internationally.

Twisted Metal will be assaulting a PlayStation 3 near you this February 14.

There will only be one map and one game mode in the open beta. The map will be the Operation Metro map which is set in Paris and the game mode will be Rush. Beta participants will also have the chance to test out the brand new battle log system which allows you to set up challenges, view your stats and much more.

I have to say I contributed to the success of the top two titles. I had both of them pre-ordered and have enjoyed my time with them immensely, well apart from that whole Steam thing with Dead Island that is. My experience with Reststance 2 on the other hand somewhat put me off a Resistance 3 pre-order, but I’m sure I will eventually pick the game up especially after reading Gary’s review, which you can check out if you click the link at the end of this post. Warhammer 40000: Space Marine fans we have not forgotten about you. A review for the game will be forthcoming, that’s assuming Gary comes back from his trip to see the highly anticipated Rage. EA and Crytek have just let the world know that a console version of the much-loved PC killer Crysis is on the way. The news came via a Gametrailers.com exclusive trailer which showed Crysis running on the Xbox 360 and revealed the game will be shipping with a little more than the original PC version of Crysis had including “all new Nanosuit controls” and “all new effects”.

Which roughly translates as improvements to the game engine (no big surprise) and console friendly controls, but having played and completed the original Crysis on PC with an Xbox 360 controller I don’t see what they had to improve. I guess we will have to wait and see when the game ships sometime next month. Oh that’s right. The game is coming out next month. Talk about springing a surprise.
