Until Dawn Trailer: Flashlight Batteries Included

It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything new from motion controlled horror title Until Dawn, but we were given some more footage from last nights Game Awards and at today’s Playstation Experience. I actually got a chance to play this game at Eurogamer a few months back, and I can honestly say I didn’t enjoy it. The dialogue was bland and didn’t match the uncanny atmosphere they were going for. The characters weren’t likeable, so I didn’t care what happened to them. And the flashlight motion controls were borderline annoying.

However, this new trailer actually seems like a slight improvement to what I played before. As you’ll see in the trailer one of the female characters is being chased by a masked goon. Along the way the player gets to determine her actions. Eventually she ends up in a bedroom, and she makes the age old horror movie mistake of hiding in the most obvious place ever. But again, these are choices made by the player, and the outcomes are permanent. A character can die in Until Dawn and the story will continue without them.

I hope that by the time this game releases it’s much better than what I played at Eurogamer. To be fair, an expo isn’t always the best place to get into the mood for these types of games. So I will give Supermassive Games the benefit of the doubt and assume it will turn out decent.

Until Dawn is set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 4 in 2015.
