2008, when Grand Theft Auto IV, Gears of War 2, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Battlefield: Bad Company where running amok on our wallets.

This was also the year when gamers received news that the unnamed EA Chicago’s Marvel Universe fighting game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 was cancelled, citing a change in “Electronic Arts portfolio strategy.”

Original plans were to have EA Chicago develop the first game in what would become a franchise, but the studio was closed in November, resulting in Marvel Interactive terminating its deal with EA.

Electronic Arts and Marvel have jointly agreed to discontinue development of Marvel fighting games under the Electronic Arts brand,” said Justin Lambros, VP of Marvel Interactive. “This was a business decision based on Electronic Arts portfolio strategy and will not affect Marvel’s ongoing plans to release fighting games based on the Marvel properties in the future.

Flash forward seven years, and PtoP Online, a YouTube channel that specializes in finding long-forgotten footage, has resurrected an extended look at Xbox 360 gameplay which features a battle between Hulk and Captain America.

The footage was in the early stages and gameplay looks rather rough. There are some moves that don’t connect, some repetition going on, and a rather annoying Captain America voice-over as well. However, this did have potential to not be a complete disaster; unfortunately, we’ll never really know.
