LEGO Jumps Into the “Playable Figure” Ring with LEGO Dimensions

Following in the footsteps of the insanely successful Skylanders franchise, Nintendo and Disney decided to jump into the “playable figurine” market. Following those huge successes, Lego has announced a new game today: LEGO Dimensions which will release on September 27 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and Wii U. The game will feature a ton of Lego-ized franchises, including Lord of the Rings, the DC Comics universe, and Back to the Future.

Much like Skylanders, LEGO is releasing a starter pack for the game that includes the game, and a “Toy Pad” that allows people to place LEGO figurines on it. The Starter Pack will come with three special figures: Gandalf, Batman, and Wyldstyle.

Players will be able to place up to seven different characters on the pad, allowing them to mix up various properties for the maximum amount of crazy. As stated above, there will be a Back to the Future at some point in 2015, as well as a LEGO Ninjago set.  The company also announced more “Fun packs” to be coming in 2016, which will include other characters for you to play as.
