The Performance Matters Live StreamThe voices of video games gather to talk about a growing issue...
If you have been paying close attention to Twitter the last few weeks, you may have noticed a hastag being passed around by voice actors/actresses within the video game industry. The issue of #PerformanceMatters focuses on the ongoing debate about how voice acting in video games is an important part to the game industry’s biggest titles.
The Live Stream panel was hosted by Kinda Funny Games co-founder Greg Miller and was joined by voice actors Matthew Mercer, America Young, and Travis Willingham. Those on the development side from Blizzard and Turtle Rock Studios also joined in on the big discussion, offering insight into the creation of games and how voice acting plays an important role. You can watch the full video of the panel listed above.
Since #PerformanceMatters began appearing on Twitter, negotiations with game publishers and the union SAG-AFTRA have been ongoing. Those part of SAG-AFTRA are currently voting for their union to go on strike. This would mean that unionized voice actors across the game industry would not participate in any new video game related projects.
You can check out a full statement about the negotiations and a summary of the issue over on the SAG-AFTRA website. You can also check out the full Co-Op Podcast here on The Koalition, where we discussed how #PerformanceMatters will affect the whole video game industry.
