they add additional media because it givews them a huge advantage over the rest of the market.

for example,

it is cheaper to buy a ps3 that can read blu ray dvds as a bonus tan it is to buy a dedicated blu ray player. i dont care if x-box can only read standard definition because personally i cant tell the difference.

but the wii cant even do that.

like the main post said,

the wii is a console for parties and your gf's parents.

and the reason why the games like cod ect ect is because the controls dont work.

but id like to see someone play wii sports on a ps3 or x-box. it would just fail epicly.

the wii has its unique selling point and that seems to have won the hearts and minds of the parents of young children but to be honest anyone who wants a brilliant online experience will buy a x-box, anyone who want an all round superior media experience will buy a ps3 and anyone who wants their kids to shut up will then buy a wii to put in the spare room while they play call of duty in their bedroom.

I totally disagree with you. It's one thing to know the shortcomings of a piece of electronic equipment you buy….I knew the 360 didn't have Blu Ray or HD DVD….I knew the Wii didn't have HD….hell I knew the Dreamcast didn't play DVDs. But that has nothing to do with the quality of products that come out for that piece of equipment. I understand Nintendo is selling to a difference audience than ever before, but they can sell games that are fun and appeal to everyone while the game is still challenging and technically and graphically sound. Every game doesn't have to be a new gimmick to sell a new periphial. And Big N has had 3 or 4 years now and they still haven't changed. No one is making money off of the Wii except Big N and 3rd party companies know they can't really sell anything on it so they put out XBox and PS2 ports on the Wii and sadly incorporate the Wii remote and call it a new release. The shit is sad.

Same old dance. How many times can someone drag nintendo through the mud for doing something different. You knew before you bought the wii it didn't do hd games. Or that it have 5.1 surround sound but you bought it. Cases about not giving devlopers time to get games out on wii. Hell they didn't want anyone to steal there thunder (hello Sony E3 uh we have motion control weeeee look, not a developer at E3 knew about this). Wii has great games and a better line up on games in 06 and 2010. I think you fell short when you type this. This is just a stepping stone of what's to come from Nintendo.

the graphics are only crap because of 3d party devloupers,there cheap and lazy,and port to many games over to the wii i think nintendo should sue them for them not making a fresh new copy of games for the wii instead of crap ports!!!!!!!!!!!

I think its so funny to see nintendo beat the crap out of sony i wish i was at there party,they were number 1 until sony came out n64 lost gamecube got creamed and now ps3 getting creamed ha ha ha ha ha ha ha……i beat when you were younger you like saga over nintendo

if sony was so great at making videogame systems why do they have to include media with it like ps1 has cd's,ps2 had dvd's,ps3 has blu-ray,psp had umd…

In reply to ME. Correct! and Sony should follow that example in world in economic recession. Nintendo's timing with a cheap re-packaged Gamecube console couldn't be better. Like Miyamoto said they tried to play safe as the Wii was their last card in home console business. And he said if it(Wii) failed and bombed at least it would not hurt as much as the original Gamecube. Lucky bastridges!

Wii has had 79 games sell over a million copies. Many of those are 3rd party. They may not be the 3rd party games that YOU would like to see, but they've sold a TON of games. A lot of people think the 3rd party support is bad because games like Dead Space and Madworld tank. There is a reason why they tank 😉 Also, when MSFT did their comparison of Wii 3rd party sales vs. XBOX, they used a starting date of when the Wii was released. It makes sense that the numbers weren't good because there were millions more XBOXs in circulation at the time.

Having said all this, I sure would like to see more 3rd party game that I enjoy. Monster Hunter is AWESOME, though… and Arc Rise Fantasia looks to be absolutely great. Let's not forget Sakura Wars either… and Dragon Quest X!!!! I don't want GTA IV or stuff like that on the Wii though… I know some people did, but I'm happy enough with stuff like that on my PS3.

I agree with all of your points..but I still love the wii for all the great games that are on it…minus all the shovels of shovelware.

You forgot to mention the great 3rd party games that didn't fair so well…

Madworld

No More Heroes 1 and 2

Dead Space-Extraction

etc.

Great games..but not good sales..

PS I am laughing out loud about the Robby Drums at the bottom..that sh*t is hilarious. Then there was an atom bomb.

I would strongly disagree with regards to the PSone having a superior software line-up – sure it had more games but the N64 had not only the most critically acclaimed game of all time, but lots of other exceptional titles too!

But otherwise I quite enjoyed your article and certainly agree with most of what you said 🙂
