In reply to Peanut. Peanut i 100% agree with your point but those games you named are pretty garbage besides LO(which has major issues) & demon souls(which is hard as hell) those others are garbage. I wish they made a new name for "western RPGs"cause that name is really bad. Saying Fallout and Blue dragon is in the same genre doesnt seem right 2 me. Like Swiff said theyre giving shooters rpg elements and BAM its a RPG! Yes we are "PLAYING THE ROLE OF A CHARACTER" hence the name role playing game but dont we play a role as someone in almost every game.I mean if God of War 3 gives Kratos a mp bar and some ppl to talk is that RPG of the year? Oh wait he needs 2 level up also.Just something to think about.

JRPGs > WRPGs imoJrpgs deal with life issues that provoke deep levels of thought. Look at Grandia 2 (deals with Religion on a level never seen in games) & Tales of Vesperia (deals with racism on many levels like none before)Also Jrpgs involve waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more fight strategy then wrpgs.Just some reasons why i prefer jrpgs.But 2 each his own.

In reply to Peanut. Western devs DO have the RPG game on lock NOW. You got Fable, Fallout, Mass Effect, Borderlands, etc. No doubt that Japanese devs have made major impacts on the industry with JRPG's but this generation, I feel that Western devs have it on lock.

JRPG’s have always been undeniable beautiful and well crafted although personally I find them somewhat confusing and lacking in originalityWow, Just wow! Western devs really think they have the RPG game on lock now.
