Ok so why are we comparing last year specs to 2006 specs? Retarded. Just wait till nexbox and ps4 come out then well see who has the best specs.
Btw, I love how nintendrones were saying gameplay only matters with the wii, but now they are only talking about graphics. He haven't heard much about the new innovations, all we hear about is 1080p 60fps.

Sony has YET to have a console that can render games in full HD (1080p, 60fps) for tvs that most people have! The concept that they are suddenly going to be able to have a console in a few years that can render games in 4k for tvs NO ONE has is just ludicrous.

The very fact this blogger uses it as an argument to devalue the new Wii is very telling how weak his arguments are.

Exactly. He says this is the Wii Nintendo should have released in 2006....yet he not even tech savvy enough to understand that ps360 couldnt even come close to this in 2006.

The ps360 only had 512k RAM, and for the ps3 only 256k was dedicated to gaming.

Neither system can render games at full 1080p at 60 fps. Sure, there are a couple of ports that the ps3 has been able to boost up to that...but 99% of the games run at 720p or less (and just stretched to 1080) and are lucky to get close to a consistent 30 fps.

However, the Wii U has 2 gb of RAM, 1gb being dedicated to games. The Wii U can fully render current 1080p HD games at 60 fps (confirmed by both Zombie U and COD: Black Ops 2)

Its not even a contest. Im surprised the blogger of this site doesnt see the difference nor realizee there is a REASON the ps360 couldnt have the horsepower of the Wii U in 2006 and sell at a reasonable price.

Pretty bad article.

You know this is a biased/misinformed article when the second picture he puts up showcases a Wii U controller that doesnt even exsist.

But i guess its good, it sets up the reader to know that all the speculation made in this article is based on old/non exsistent info

Hah, nice theory. Doesn't explain why Nintendo games sold more units individually in the past 5 years than the other two consoles.

How could they sell so many games if people just bought the wii in 2006 and then threw it in the corner. Maybe that's what YOU did, but its highly anecdotal

There has yet to be a native game made for the ps360 that can render games in full 1080p at 60fps like the wii u can. That's the whole point this hack writer misses.

Yes there have been a couple of ports that have been rendered higher...but there is a reason 99% of ps360 games render at 720p or less and can barely keep up at 30fps.

And this writer thinks Sony is going to make games for 4k TVs that no one has when they have YET to make games run at 1080p HD for HDTVs that everyone has! lol

Those 2006 era consoles in no way have the capabilities that the wii u have...because they couldn't put all that in a system back then at a reasonable price!

So this guy saying the wii u is the system Nintendo should have came out with in 2006 proves he is an idiot and knows nothing about technology. Why this site lets him discuss technology is beyond me.

Exactly. He says the wii u should have came out in 2006...but he has no problem with the fact that ps360 A) had only 512k of RAM...of which the ps3 could only use 256k for games, B) were not capable of DirectX 11 type graphics and C) were not capable of making games rendered in full 1080p HD at 60 fps...they could at best only render in 720p and stretch it to 1080p at 30 fps.

The wii U has 2gb of RAM (1 gb dedicated to gaming), is capable of rendering DirectX11 type graphics, and can render games in 1080p HD at 60 fps (both ZombieU and cod: black ops 2 have been confirmed this way)

You can't really cross compare a launch system's price with a system in its last year or two of life. Also, PS3/360 upscale their games to 1080 rather than have games with that quality natively. The Wii U is capable of native 1080. Nintendo is known for doing a lot with a little, and even if Wii's graphics were subpar for this generation some of the best first party games were for the Wii. Nintendo appeals based on gameplay/same room multiplayer whereas, PS3 and 360 went graphics/online play last Gen. Now, we have the promise of online play on Wii U as well as higher graphics, asynchronous multiplayer (players having seperate experiences based on gamepad or classic controller in games likeTank

You know what's crazy to me? I own both a 3DS and Vita and Revelations looks nearly as good as Golden Abyss. I mean, Uncharted was a launch game for the Vita so it's clear the system is capable of a lot more but man...that's pretty impressive for the 3DS.

" the Wii U is the console that Nintendo should have released in 2006 instead of the Wii."

That just wouldn't have been feasible from a financial standpoint. Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo doesn't have another division to depend on if their console loses money. They have ALWAYS sold their consoles at a profit.

Besides, they tried playing the hardware game last generation, remember? The Gamecube was every bit as powerful as the PS2 (and then some) but was still slaughtered in sales. By the end of 2004 it was clear Nintendo had to go a different route. Thus the Wii was born...and it paid off big time! To date it has nearly double the sales of the PS3 and 360. And while third party game sales were not so great on the system; software wise Nintendo did exponentially well across the DS and Wii. Which brings me to my next point...

"I’m begging for Nintendo to prove me wrong."

They don't have to prove anything friend! I can't remember which guest on the Giant Bomb podcast said this (I believe it was Paul Barnett) but NEVER count Nintendo out. I feel like I've been hearing "Nintendo is doomed!" since 2002. Hilariously, their coming off insane sales of the Wii and the DS and I'm STILL hearing people say that.

Last year I read 3 or 4 articles from pretty reputable outlets like Joystiq saying the 3DS was Nintendo's last handheld and that they were (literally said this) doomed. One year later, not only is the 3DS out selling the PS Vita by MILLIONS of units, it's actually out pacing the sales of the original DS in the same time frame.

So Carl, I do respect your opinion, but I believe it's way too soon to be worrying about Nintendo's fate. If we learned anything from the DS/PSP generation, it's that the hardware doesn't matter.

And hey...at the very least Carl, we'll get some ****ing awesome games from Nintendo. That alone is worth the price of admission in my opinion.

that's why you get more power for your money with Sony, look at Vita it is a fair bit more powerful than 3DS and it shows in games like Rayman and Uncharted, 3DS was overpriced at launch.. nintendo need to learn to make a smaller profit and put more money into their hardware.. i'm not saying the systems they make are weak because mario 3D land on 3DS looks nice even though it's not as powerful as Vita.. they make the most of their hardware, but need to put more cash into more power rather than being greedy.

people need to stop with the 4K crap, PC's can run 60FPS 1080P and rarely higher otherwise you don't keep the high framerate and end up with crap.

Consoles would run at like 10FPS if they ran games at that resolution, waste of time.

In reply to <a href="https://thekoalition.com/2012/wii-u-hardware-impressions-too-little-too-late#comment-144672">Vaughn Chung</a>.

People who think PS4 will run 4K are dumber than i thought, i guess they have no clue PC games need good hardware that's no more than 3-4 years old to be able to run newer games at a good speed, even then you get the odd badly coded game Crysis or even Oblivion that ran poorly on good systems.

Even in 2004 when i had a 6800 ultra card i remember Doom 3 dropping to 20fps in intense sections and that was at a resolution lower than HD, i believe 1024x768 possibly.

Today though, 1080P is the sweet spot, go any higher and you need a dual graphics card which introduces micro stuttering not to mention they are not always efficient in games.. simply put unless graphics cards got 3-4x more powerful as a jump right now then 4K will be unplayable unless you like playing slideshows.
