Economic Superiority – One of the most common arguments for consoles is their price. Sure, PC’s cost more. Initially. But you’ll get more for the money than from buying a overpriced console, which is in fact a small PC too…but the hardware is dumbed down and all the fancy buttons are gone so they won’t confuse the average kid. Games for consoles are about 20% more expensive than games for PC. Let alone all the extras like PS4 Cameras, charging stations, cable extenders/adapters etc. It’s all overpriced, like Apple hardware is. If you own a console, you’ll soon be spending more money than the average PC dude.

Unlimited Storage Space – Stock PC’s already have a bigger hard disk than any console. A friend of me got 16x4TB hard disks in his PC.

Mod Support – Many PC games can be modded. Mods can enhance you gaming experience by several hundreds of percent.

Free Software – The selection of apps and games is ultimately larger for PC’s. PC exlusive titles outnumber the console exclusives by far. And there’s so much stuff for free!

Free Internet – Other than paying your ISPs fee, your internet is not bound to any more costs. The Online Services for consoles (Xbox Live, PS Network) take even more money out your pocket.

User Servicable – Your Video Card melted? Your CPU exploded? Not a problem for a PC, just switch the broken part with a new one. Console users still need to send the whole device to the manufacturer.

Variety Of Uses – Video editing, photoshopping, audio altering/producing, doing homework, spaceshuttle navigation computation etc, etc, etc. The possobilities are endless. On consoles…not so much.

Computer gaming has beaten console gaming ever since the 1980s. While the first IBM-compatible and Apple PCs computers had very limited gaming capabilities, home computers such as the Commodore 64 and later the Amiga were up to par with all consoles at the time (and the games were essentially free if you know what I mean, wink wink, nudge nudge. We were young and didn’t know better).

Then the PC evolved into a gaming machine and hardware prices fell drastically as the internet went mainstream. High-end gaming PCs continually beat the hell out of consoles in terms of screen resolution and performance. And those who can’t afford the latest hardware still get to play the newest games with lower quality settings. When the first MMORPGs hit the market, it was clear that intelligent and social gamers who wanted more than mindless shooters would never again need a console, nor have the time for guided-content offline games without a social component. And now that smartphones and tablets have our mobile gaming needs covered (as did laptops before), consoles will soon be history.

Then came the Amiga, the best gaming/home computer ever made. I first considered buying a PC when I saw Wing Commander on a friend’s 286, but didn’t have the money. When Doom came out, I knew that I couldn’t live without a PC anymore and financed a 486DX system. I’ve been a PC gamer ever since, with the exception of various smartphones and an Android tablet for mobile gaming, and never even considered buying a console.

metacritic? That’s a broken system. Infestation/Warz, other incomplete or completely broken games get frequent 8’s. Users go on there and rate a game either 0 if they hate it or have some sort of bias against it, or a 10 if they like it, or prefer it over the competition.

Using metacritic to gauge value is like asking a toddler for tax consultation.

Arma III score less than Red Faction Armageddon and CoD? Pff, okay. That, and half the reviews were based on the alpha, which was about 8 months ago, many people scoring 0 because they bought an early-access game, or scored a 0 because they didn’t like it. Metacritic doesn’t know how to score a game, and the whole site is gamed and exploited all the time. Look at it. Look how many 10’s and 0’s are all over it. Hardly anyone uses a 10 scale, they just use the fanboy scale.

Consoles are lightyears ahead in terms of annual rehashes, gigantic budgets focused on cinematics, and tired, copy-pasted third person adventures, with completely overused gameplay. “The trash that passes for gaming on the PC is dumbed down” Look at titles that went to consoles from the PC world. Blizzard sent Diablo 3 there, and now they’re getting all the Free-to-play games. You obviously don’t know, but TES, Diablo 3 and such games were dumbed down in order to go to consoles. You want to see “dumbed down” you look at anything that was eventually released to consoles after having been on PC a while. You’ll also noticed those games get raped with premium-priced DLCs.

I don’t think you’ve ever even played something like Kerbal Space Program, DayZ, Civ 5, Mount and Blade, Garry’s Mod, a modded GTAIV that I still prefer over 5, Killing Floor, the Ship, Planetside 2, BF2, Project cars, Amnesia, Outlast, Chivalry, or Faalskar, have you?

Consoles cost upwards of $1800 in some countries. Digital games cost the equivalent of $100+ US dollars in many countries. Computers offer a wide range of capabilities, even people with decade old machines are opting to use Steam. What are you doing, trying to turn the “power” argument to your favor? Incorrect? Show me how many games are rendering at 1080p and running at 60fps. Killzone is running at 30fps in Singleplayer, and possibly 60fps in multiplayer due to necessitating sacrifices in order to hit that target, but as of now, still consistently under 50fps which is a little disappointing considering there’s very little AA applied. You won’t get SP visuals and effects in MP. Knack is chugging half the time, AC4 is running at 30, BF4 suffering a lot of frame rate drops in MP, but then again, BF4 is a mess across the board right now.

But, what’s this about high end PC’s not running all games at 1080p 60fps? You’re drawing a comparison. That’s different. How? A high end machine won’t run games at 1080p and 60fps if it’s one of the very few, very hardware-dependent games on that market, and they won’t run at those targets maxed out. If you were to ACTUALLY compare, you could set the games settings to be comparable to a console, and would likely find that the machine could easily support 60+ fps, and probably do so at 1440p resolutions. After all, that’s what I do, except I don’t have to sacrifice that many effects. I can run plenty of games at 60fps @ 1440p while only sacrificing a bit of AA. Aliasing, of which, is much less noticeable when rendering at 1440p.

You articulate your understanding of these particular CPU benchmarks so well. I'm completely convinced by your "explanation." I could go into depth about why you're less than apparent understanding of those tests is misinformed, but I'll just put it simply: the i7 rated higher because, while it's base frequency is 1.5GHz, it will clock to the same frequency, on two cores, as the AMD chip that you compared it with, and will clock at an even higher frequency on a single core, making speed of operation quite variable and flexible depending on the application.

That is the basis of your entire description and understanding of CPUs; you can read a benchmark, but you can't explain for shlt why they are as they are. Comparing a Xeon processor with an FX8350 in the hopes that it's going to somehow validate your perception that the PS4's CPU isn't underpowered because of it's low clock freq? You're going to have to demonstrate an understanding of the other operations that make that so. You didn't even label which version of the Xeon CPU the benchmark described, but they're all obviously of the same architecture, so it makes perfect sense why those CPUs would beat out the 8350.
