While I can see what you are saying, I don't think that we should be telling developers what they can or can't do. If we ever want games to be taken as seriously as books or movies as an art form, we cannot demand that certain people be put in certain roles, that certain stories are told or that certian people are satisfied.

Quite similillary, I believe that we should also not demand that Crystal Dynamics or Ninja Theory put optional male leads as this was not how the game was intended to play. I would very much defend them as well.

Remeber, this is a narratively driven game, (The Point Being that were this a game like Skyrim or Mass Effect, where the player is meant to imprint on the character and main character is much more interchangeable, I would totally understand and agree with you. But I would like to belive that because this is such a narratively driven game, all the characters serve a purpose services by the story.

After all we don't go around telling Suzanne Colins to rewrite the Hunger Games with a male lead or tell J.K. Rowling that she has to make a version of Harry Potter with Harry as a girl do we?
