In reply to <a href="https://thekoalition.com/2013/what-we-want-from-assassins-creed-iv#comment-150937">Gary A. Swaby</a>.

Exactly. I loved ezio by the end of revelations. And, we have only had one connor game that spans much less of his life than we did with ezios. I think that we should give connor some time to mature in a new game maybe after black flag before we call him the worst character. I also appreciate your opinion too, and can totally see how ezios imperfect qualities make for an interesting character. From what i can tell, edawrd kenway is a mixture of connor and ezio, brash, charming, and a drunk, but also noble and couragious.

I just feel like connor Didnt get the respect he deserved.

Wow thats an awesome comment. You raise some good points there. But I personally believe that characters with major personal flaws are the more interesting one. You hit the nail on the head with Ezio's douche bag characteristics, but that is what makes him more interesting to follow. I like to see a character with huge flaws go through an enourmous journey, and at the end of it grow as a character and rid themselves of some of those flaws. At the end of AC:R I feel like Ezio really grew as a character throughout the entire journey from AC2 to AC:R. That scene with him and Altair's corpse was touching.

I really appreciate your comment though, and I can see your point.

People were spoiled by three games of Ezio. He was charming, reckless, a womanizer, and a douchebage. He got in bed with some chick immediaitely after the love of his life was killed, and almost immediately after his family was killed. Just because connor was more serious and a more noble character than ezio doesn't mean he's a worse character. Games these days are plagued with unbelievably cliche and predictable characters, and I feel like ezio was the most predictable of all. Connor is a much more realistic character, because his story doesnt end perfectly. After the death of ezios family, it is basically uphill from there. Sure his town gets taken over, but most of the three games is of how his enemies dont stand a chance because ezio always wins. He is pretty much exactly like batman. Connor's story however, is more realistic and heartbreaking. His Mother is killed, his village is taken over, and his people are being forced from their homes. Even as Connor slashes his way through the game, he still doesn't succeed. He has to kill his own father, kill his own childhood friend, his people do end up being forced out in the end, and he is left alone after achilles dies. Given the trauma he endures, he has twice as much a right as anyone to be serious and stoic. Also, he grew up in a native american village constantly on the edge of war or extinction, so he grew up in a living hell, unlike ezios childhood and teenage life of pure wealth, happiness, wine, and riches. If connor acted like that during his childhood, his village would think something was wrong with him. Unfortunately, the only way to see connor for the great character he is is to do the homestead missions. He is extremely caring and protective of his friends and neighbors and he has a noble heart, frantically helping with a woman in labor, helping a miner get a woman, being the best man and acting "father" of the bride during the wedding, and helping with any task that he can. He is not just an "errand boy." he does the things he does because he is noble as has a morally correct heart. Sure, he acts like a dick many times to achilles, but he does come back to the manor and begs for achilles' forgiveness. They grow closer up until his death, when he buries him himself while explaining that he misses him like he misses his mother, and swearing that he will make achilles proud. Connor's story is not done yet. His people are gone, his master is gone, and his entire family is gone, and he is technically the leader of the colonial assassins. He will not rest until he brings peace to the land. Ezio fought for revenge in AC2, revenge tainted with a little justice in ACB, and for a woman in ACR. Connor fought for justice, and anyone who calls connor the worst character or a man with no personality has not played the game right.
