Great comment Jessica, definitely overlooked those two facts. I would love to learn more about that mask in general, it looked so awesome!

"This is governed by the fact that Link does not possess any real combat
abilities prior to the start of the first Link to the Past, but is shown
clearly in the knick of it based on the gameplay video above. The
second hint for this, is that at 0:51 seconds in the video you can clearly see the sword shooting beams, which is a characteristic of only the Master Sword
and its upgradeable variations in the series. However, it's stated that
the Master Sword sleeps again..."Forever!"...at the end of the original
Link to the Past, so this is a little confusing on how it could be in
this game...and it makes my head hurt..."
Sword beams are in the first Legend of Zelda game, chronologically after LttP. One should also recall the Fierce Deity mask in MM, which -also- featured sword beams without the Master Sword. Clearly this is an effect that can be replicated in other swords.

I would like to quote something from the Hyrule Historia website.

"Though Hyrule Historia provided the fans with an official timeline, the creators mention that various details had to be overlooked and that fans should just enjoy the series and the new timeline. It is said that the order of events and the details within the timeline change according to who is weaving the tales, and additionally, history is still being spun. Therefore, it may be safe to assume that, years down the road, various aspects of Hyrule Historia may become obsolete as new information could take its place."

Perhaps years down the road happens to be this year. Perhaps the sequel to Link to the Past will alter the timeline and create a brand new one. As fans of the games we will just have to accept it or refuse to buy the games. However, I feel the latter is very unlikely to happen.

As discussed, not a prequel based on what we've seen in the trailer and they already confirmed it's a sequel. Also, not a remake, it's a new game clearly because of the new elements.

Isn't this supposed to be a prequel to LTTP? I'm not sure why they showed that worm boss which is the same boss as LTTP. It looks like a remake to me.

You know what, that sounds plausible. It would surely complicate things even more, but hey, it's Zelda and I love dissecting the timeline (as you can tell.) Maybe they could even play with the extreme futuristic elements that they wanted to be in the ALTTP originally?

Nice suggestion though, I'd be okay with that!

Well it is still called Link to the Past, so there very well could be a time component here. Nintendo never really used a time component for the first game. Maybe there is some new evil guy that knows the story of what happened very well and is trying to mess with time to prevent what took place in the first game from happening. The Link right at the end of the first game could get caught up in it and if he suceeds he'll return to right where he was and the timeline will continue and if he fails it would create yet another timeline.

Heck the main boss could be mentor of the twin witches or something to explain the time travel component and they could also mess with the seasons at the same time. If they did this and had Link running into the past Link then that would be interesting.

Great point, should have been included but I guess it slipped my mind since I tried to focus on only cannonical lore for the most part and it seems to have been "forgotten."

One thing you should check out and explore as well is BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets. That was originally considered a sequel to Link to the Past. Nintendo may have pacified it since it wasn't released globally, but a lot of what happens in there does match up to cannon of the timeline, even though its not officially considered part of the timeline.
