Yeah you're right, COD is already unbalanced. The thing is, I think if the big publishers take advantage of f2p they will def make the games unbalanced on purpose. Like I said, some publishers we can trust to keep a level of quality and value, but the huge corporations who are simply out for profit are the ones that scare me if they take on this model.

Like you said, people are sheep and they will likely fall victim to these shady tactics based solely on the name of the publisher and the IP.

I don't see it as a potential problem. Gamers definitely don't want unbalanced gameplay. If the developers do go down that path to the point it actually reduces the quality of the game, then it would also be to their own detriment. Smarter devs/publishers would see this as a competitive advantage to quickly swoop in and make an F2P game that stays balanced.

If it was going to happen it would've happened by now from one of the many F2P devs in the market. The big publishers like EA and Activision (note: I know Activision haven't made an F2P game, yet) might have a history of making stupid decisions sometimes, but they're not THAT shortsighted.

Then again, this kind of over powered players in a multiplayer is equally a problem today in non-F2P gamese. You only have to point to titles like Call of Duty which have massively over powered players with an unlock system in the type of game where it just doesn't make sense. So if it does start to manifest in F2P games it won't be as a consequence of the business model. Just blame it on idiot gamers who don't know what makes a good game and continue to buy into it :P
