I’m going to say this is marketing. I won’t say it’s brilliant, but I will say it’s effective and is, I think, Ubisoft’s gauge to see if there’s a pattern to exploit at a later time. And I’m basing my assumption having never fully played a Far Cry game, but by looking at marketing materials and overall impressions from those who dove into Far Cry 3. Look at the game cover and which characters get all of the attention: the villain(s). Now here comes Far Cry 4 and who is front and center to represent the game? Here’s a hint: someone who isn’t showing any tell-tale signs of being a hero.
