Good for you but that isn’t what I was getting at. For me, it’d be great to see more lists like this, where VI isn’t at the number one spot.

my personal top is:

8- Final Fantasy X-2 (No comment, that game don’t only suck. It’s a rape of a great game. Popstar Yuna, Dreadlock Rikku, failed gameplay, get lost)
7- Final Fantasy I (No interest. You can forget magica, physical attacks work much better. The only touch you will use is X. There is no interrest playing this game which has no story, no real difficulty until the final boss and whose strategy is stupid)
6- Final Fantasy V (The job system enjoyed me… but it was all. The story is stupid, the univers lacks of originality, a nice game but not really good)
5- Final Fantasy VI (The graphics and the cinematics are incredibly good for 2D, the splitted story works very well because the characters are all excellent. The musics are beautifull and the gameplay works well)
4- Final Fantasy XIII (Surprising but very clever, the gameplay based on strategies makes the game pretty intense. The quality of the cinematics is incredibly good, the story and the universe were a success. The only point I didn’t lie, if not hated, is the Hope/Vanilla duo. Those characters are really ennoying)
3- Final Fantasy IV (The game that made me begin the Saga. I loved the darkness of the story, the well dosed difficulty, the quality of the 2D-cinematics and the gameplay. Please, DONT EVER PLAY THE REMAKE: it’s only bullshit. Everything fails in that rebuild. They should only have increased the graphics, instead of making it easier, and literally raping the story by adding pointless dialogs that change the nature of the characters . This remake is an insult for the fans of the game)
2- Final Fantasy VII (Classic but damned good. The materia system is excellent, the story is classic but works, The Cloud and Cid characters are really good and the storyline is variated and epic)
1- Final Fantasy X (That game was like a bomb for me. I love the deepness of the story, the characters and the universe, the gameplay is one of the best, the musics are wonderfull, the quality of the cinematics is incredible, everything works perfectly… and even the Blitzball is a hit)

I have played FF 1 to 6, 9, 12 and 13(2), and I saw VII and VIII. I kinda disliked FF V to VIII and XII-XIII because anyone can use magic (hence the “magic user” kinda disappear). Also, I hate how they transitioned 4 character to 3 character per fight in like EVERY (RPG) PS game (well, some games make sense with 3). heck, the last FF game you can control 4 character is FF XII international (you can control the guest character). The soundtrack for FF VII was great tought. I’ll be honest, I never finished a SINGLE FF beside the first one on GBA #_# because… I dunno XD I was always before the last dungeon in FF 2 to 6 -_-

my top 5 is:

1.FF4 (any version excepting FFII-easy type) (only mainstream FF with 5 playable fighter in battle)

2.FF5 (I like when anyone can be….anyone…Samurai+blink+shield+cape= evader)

3.FF9 (a return to the roots, similar to FF4 because each character have specific job)

4.FF6 (a lot of character to play with and each of them have a “limit” and special skill)

5.FF3 (the NES one, similar to FFV (jobs) but with some tough boss)

Yeah, after all this years, I have come to the explanation that VI is actually the best of the lot. That’s it.

I tried to keep this list to strictly the main series single-player games, so no spinoffs or MMOs were included. FFXIV is indeed great though 🙂

I agree about FFVI having the best main antagonist as well (check back for our villain list tomorrow), that is the ONE thing about IV I feel is lacking. For all the things it does so well, it’s more of a personal story of the characters, than it is an epic battle of good vs. evil. With that being said, I kind of like that about it as well.

Agreed though, I need to play VI again!

Best main protagonist = FF4
Best main antagonist = FF6

But FF6 is best FF easily.
