Yeah that was my mistake. Man so Mikasa must be really powerful considering she is both an Ackerman and Asian.

I’ve heard its complete different universe, same theme, same premise of THE TITAN, but it’s completely it’s own story taking place in the future, as anime and manga is set in the past. I think based on budget and their industry, the movie will still Rock.

I actually think, the success of this movie will let, Hollywood to be more daring and stay to the source, just mesh it as the Lord of the Rings, to appease the non fanboys or fangirl, LOL.

The Ackerman relation that was Mikasas fathers side of the family which was not asian, it is suggested that the Ackerman bloodline is a jewish one. Levi is 100% not asian though.

Although, it’s only a trailer, despite how awkward it looks it might end up being good but I wouldn’t keep your fingers crossed (hey, at least they’ve got the salute right!)

My main issue is that this is the one time where the cast is actually european characters and it’s the one time where they use asian actors, Mikasa was the only asian in the source material and there’s a reason. The special effects I also am not super interested in the titans actually look good but the 3D gear looks really bad to me.

You’re also right about the name (probably) being the main reason why Funimation took it on (especially given the popularity of the anime on the Toonami programming block) but man, I’m just happy to see it happen even if it won’t be the CG fun fest Jurassic World was. I tweeted Madman about how closely the film would follow source and they replied back “it’s based on the manga/anime, but there’s like a few surprises in there too!” so for all we know it could be a mixed bag when the movie drops (and we probably won’t get a full on answer as to why that is). This one was licensed just due to the title and brand, otherwise it wouldn’t have been licensed by Funimation of all people. Low quality CG is already something that can be seen in the trailers and you can probably expect more issues to come.

The Japanese film industry is rarely in a situation where it can fund an anime film adaptation to any competent level. The reason there are two films is to desperately make sales, nothing to do with the complexity of the story.
