Letterboxing is what movies are. Gaming has taken many strides distancing itself from the movie industry and even surpasing the movie industry in revenue generated. So why would a gaming dev do something as utterly stupid as letterbox a game? Cuz they lazy bums thats why. Gamers that think its not a problem or nothing wrong with it are the same ones that think there is nothing wrong with digital content and how you the gamer never own digital content. Expecting less while paying a premium is a fools game. Expecting and adhering to mediocrity and even justifying it is just plain backwards thinking.

Technically the letterbox makes some gunplay challenging because the camera doesn’t adjust to allow you to easily peak over cover. Around cover is no problem.

Doesn’t make game bad though.

I feel like the second game should drop this year based on all the story elements they introduced that should continue to be developed.

It has pacing at times that I would compare to Heavy Rain, but it is nothing like Heavy Rain. For one thing, it is entirely linear, and for another it is a completely different genre of story.

Being a high profile exclusive both works for and against a game. It gets the attention of the platform fanbase, and it gets the ire of the opposing platform fanboys.

Uncharted was a longer game with more gameplay than cutscenes, and specifically it wasn’t a supremely linear corridor shooter like The Order 1886

I understand why some people chose to criticize The Order 1886 on the various points they do. I myself enjoyed The Order 1886, and I would eagerly anticipate a sequel. It doesn’t mean I am blind to the valid issues various reviewers chose to knock the game on

I prefer a game that has no filler content. In fact, I would have The Order 1886 remove its useless collectibles. Why are those things even there? The developers had great discipline in not adding useless crap distracting content/objectives, but kept the collectibles?

I think people are ready for 3rd Person Shooter mechanics and combat encounter designs to evolve as much if not more than the graphics technology has improved. Fortunately games Uncharted, Tomb Raider, and Last of Us continue to push that gameplay improvement in addition to staying up and meeting graphic/presentation quality standards. I hope sequel to The Order 1886 see’s it matching / competing with the other 3rd person shooter games I mentioned on more equal footing. The characters / story left enough of an impression that I would return.
