Shovel Knight is Getting An Amiibo (UPDATED)

Nintendo showed the Shovel Knight amiibo at PAX Prime in Seattle. Check out the video to see the full announcement.

It looks like the Shovel Knight amiibo is indeed real! Those in Europe can begin preordering the Shovel Knight amiibo now here at this link! Hopefully there is a formal announcement very soon at PAX Prime or afterwards from Nintendo and Yacht Club Games. Could this also mean that everyone’s hope for Shovel Knight coming to Super Smash Bros are starting to come true? We can only hope…

Those who love Yacht Club Games’ Shovel Knight on Nintendo platforms may have something to get excited about if recent rumors are true. But if you’re also fan of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U and 3DS, you have another reason to be excited for November 2015. But take this info with a few grains of salt, as nothing has been confirmed or denied by either Nintendo or Yacht Club Games.

According to an image floating around from a tweet by UK game retailer GAMEBrighton (which since has been deleted), Shovel Knight will be getting an amiibo set for released in Europe on November 27, 2015. The image states that the new amiibo will provide exclusive content for select games on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, some of which will be compatible for future titles that Yacht Club Games develops for Nintendo’s platforms.

While no specific games were listed on the tweet or the image, some gamers have reason to believe that this gives credibility to rumors that Shovel Knight is going to be included as downloadable content for Super Smash Bros on Wii U and 3DS. The image itself states that you can bring your amiibo to life on Nintendo Wii U. While other games on Wii U have amiibo compatibility and offer varying content, such as outfits and other goodies, Super Smash Bros is currently the only game you can “bring your amiibo to life” in any sort of capacity.

No official statement has come from either Nintendo or Yacht Club Games on the matter, but with Nintendo’s history of not commenting on rumors or speculation, we shouldn’t expect anything from them at all. Yet the silence or lack of any immediate denial can speak volumes to how true this may or may not be. Despite deleting the tweet, GAMEBrighton encouraged curious gamers to keep an eye on their Twitter account, hinting at a possible official announcement in the nearby future. We’ll keep following the news as it breaks here on The Koalition.
