I do agree with a lot of it, but some of your criticisms are misplaced, in my opinion. I’ll just go through your 8 reasons.
1)Same-Sex Marriage: I find it great that it was finally in a farming simulator. HM hasn’t had it, so it’s definitely a plus. However, everyone is bisexual, but we can just write that off on “videogame logic”.
2)Adoption: why is this a point? It’s literally just an alternative for those who choose gay marriage. It shouldn’t really be a reason of its own. It could be lumped in with gay marriage, since child rearing is a mechanic in these games. And since gay people cannot have children naturally, I would’ve just added this reason into that section. Not one of its own. This is not really a strength over Harvest Moon, imo.
3)No Load Times: definitely agree this a plus over HM. But you’re sorely overestimating the load times. The only time the load times are truly a hinderance, it’s on the Special Edition of Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. The regular edition is ok though. Most HMs only take 1, 2 seconds at most. The DS games are really fast.
4)Mods: I don’t really care either way. If you like it, then that’s good. So, another edge.
5) Developer Support: I agree here too. But that’s just indie developers vs big company developers in the first place.
6)Streamlined Mechanics: I think this is another plus. However, the Story of Seasons games (made by the HM people who made the series up until the Lost Valley), made it really fast. A New Beginning had something similar to a sprinkler system, but the reasoning why there usually isn’t one is because HM has a more retro feel to it. The timing of the game isn’t as modern as Stardew Valley. Also, you presented misinformation in this part too. Only the first Story of Seasons have really long tutorials. Harvest Moon (especially the older ones) had basically NO tutorial and just threw you in most of the time. Calling skippable tutorials “innovative” is funny because HM/SoS has done it already.
7)Music: this is a more subjective point. I do prefer Stardew Valley’s soundtrack to a handful of HMs, but Magical Melody, A Wonderful Life, Sunshine Islands, and Animal Parade blow it out of the water.
8)Goals: Every Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons has a goal. Stardew Valley’s goal of rebuild the town and run a successful farm has literally been the main goal of quite a few Harvest Moon games (Island of Happiness/Sunshine Islands, Tree of Tranquility/Animal Parade, Story of Seasons, A New Beginning, Lost Valley, Skytree Village,- but the last 2 mentioned were made by a different dev team though). Even the player character’s backstory is the same as the mc of A Wonderful Life. This point just made me question how familiar you actually are with the franchise.
I really like Stardew Valley, and it does have its strengths over Harvest Moon, but there’s some flaws in some of your “supporting evidence” and some points are either unnecessary or subjective. I would take 2,7, and 8 out, and rename this to “5 Reasons why…”

I want to point out one point in particular. “The Harvest Moon series often gives the player very little information when it comes to incentivizing the achievement of any sort of gaming goal.” Um, that’s the whole point of Harvest Moon. You’re supposed to figure stuff out on your own, learn what works and what doesn’t. You’re supposed to make your own fun.

Lol a wonderful life is shit… I know that but lol… Or harvest moon DS… Harvest moon got lots of special stuff… Harvest moon and stared valley haves lots in common but just only harvest moon a tale of two town can make new recipe, DS have dwarf to help you, stardew valley have some serious shit going on, crafting system… And now newest harvest moon series is story so seasons… Music wise… Harvest moon’s music got lots of good music dude… It have different music in all four seasons, festival… About the tutorial is depend on which harvest moon game you play… Wonderful life is awful… I quitted that just a few minutes… Now I’m playing DS version… Go play harvest moon good version! Go play story so season (I haven’t played though…)
