Written by on

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and everyone will be playing the game of love. But what is the perfect gift to get for that special someone you hold dear to your heart? What do you get that person if they’re a really big fan of Nintendo games? You don’t want to be stomped like a Goomba because you got the wrong gift. That would be bad!

Don’t worry curious reader! Us here at The Koalition have you covered with these five great gifts that would make the Nintendo fan of your life love you forever. We’ll make sure that you have a good Valentine’s Day this year.

#1 – Amiibo Figures

A hot new item with Nintendo fans are amiibos figures. Every Nintendo gamer has them, and every Nintendo gamer wants more of them. You can never go wrong with getting the person you love a shiny new amiibo. Not only are they good for any collection, but they could be used for a variety of select Nintendo Wii U and 3DS games.

But here’s where you can score some bonus points with the person you love. Instead of getting just any one amiibo figure, try giving them a pair as one big gift. Tell them that it’s so they can tag-team together in the games they are scanned into, like Super Smash Brothers for Wii U and 3DS. The one you love will definitely appreciate how you went out your way to give them more amiibo figures for their collection. Like we said, no Nintendo fan can ever have too many amiibos.

#2 – Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS

Speaking of Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS, what better way to show you love someone than by battling them in a full scale brawl with Nintendo’s finest? Well… maybe not exactly like that, but playing games together with Nintendo biggest characters is a great way to spend time together this Valentine’s Day. Not only is the game a lot of fun with simple controls and addictive gameplay, but it has a huge amount of fan service that die-hard Nintendo fans will appreciate.

But wait, what if they already own the game on both Nintendo Wii U and 3DS? Well don’t worry, you still can get something for your Nintendo loved one. You can purchase any of the collection packs of downloadable fighters and stages from the Nintendo eShop, which will expand their game with brand new content. The newest additions include Corrin from Fire Emblem Fates, and Bayonetta with the Umbra Clock Tower stage. Both released recently and would make a nice gift to give to your beloved Nintendo fan.

#3 – Mario Kart 7/Super Mario Maker

Most people out there know about Mario. After all, he’s one the flagship titles of Nintendo’s gaming history. So why not go try something simple and easy to get into? One great game on Nintendo 3DS is Mario Kart 7. Even if your loved one isn’t a racing fan, the fun gameplay and 3D effect on Nintendo 3DS will give them a great racing experience with Mario characters. This is a good choice if your love one is constantly on the go and likes portable gaming. But if you really want to go a step further, grab yourself a copy too and try racing with them in a few games. You might be flinging turtle shells and screaming at each other, but you both will know it’s definitely out of love.

We may be cheating here a bit, but since we’re talking about Mario, let’s throw Super Mario Maker for the Wii U in there as well. Not everybody is the creative type, but you and your loving Nintendo gamer can download a variety of user created levels to play together. There are nearly infinite amounts of possibilities for what both of you can play in Super Mario Maker. And like we said before, most people out there know Mario. If your loved one is a Nintendo fan, then they definitely know all about Mario.

#4 – Splatoon

What if the Nintendo fan you have in your life has an affinity for shooting things? Not out of malice, but because they have a solid eagle eye that hit the bull’s eye in your heart. Here’s a solid game you can get them for their Wii U console. Splatoon is not only one of the most original Nintendo titles in quite a while, it’s also one of the most addictive in the Wii U’s library.

You can spend time with your loved one paintballing against the world and debating on whether you’re a kid, or a squid now. Although the game doesn’t have local multiplayer, taking turns together is still a lot of fun with Splatoon’s single player campaign. The boss battles are very creative and will have both of you on the edge of your seats as you work together to defeat them.

#5 – Yarn Yoshi Amiibo/Yoshi’s Woolly World

If all else fails and the Nintendo fan in your life owns everything else on this list, or if you really want to make a big impact, then this is you saving grace for a Valentine’s Day gift.
