Thanks for this, I keep hearing people dumping on this game for things that, honestly, don’t bother me that much. I’ve been enjoying it immensely for many of the reasons you’ve articulated above. Glad to see I’m not the only one.

I’m playing it right now (through Gamefly) and it’s pretty good as far as I can tell just a few hours in. Yeah, I’ve seen what people are talking about, but truth be told, it doesn’t bother me that much. Now if the glitches or setbacks were related to combat or the story, then yeah, I’d probably have a bigger issue with it.

I’m looking forward to diving in further this weekend!

The game is for space enthusiasts. I agree with that 100%. Some other features may have had to take a backseat but the exploration is there in full force!

Awesome article and several of the points raised needed to be said to give people a different perspective on how to view the game. I’m not far at all in the story yet but I like that we are also introduced to some different alien species such as the Kett. In a way, you also are trying to explore their personalities and figure out their motives which plays perfectly into your theory of discovering space as a whole. The game definitely could have used more polish in certain areas but so far I’m very much enjoying the overall experience.

Excellent piece! This game makes me feel the same way the first one did. Everything was new and… alien. But like you said, this takes it to a whole other level in terms of the feeling of exploration.
