Except for the price, the battery life, the release date, Zelda being delayed, and ports timing. He’s also predicting a price which hasn’t been announced yet, so that could easily be wrong. His prediction of the two SKUs is also wrong.

Predicting that Nintendo will short stock is like predicting winter will be colder than summer. Bravo. Guessing that there will be a Mario game released shortly after launch is like predicting a heartbeat. These aren’t predictions that take a double digit IQ to generate.

I hope your masturbatory fantasies of Nintendo’s downfall are comforting for you. Having three competitors in the console industry is necessary for the survival of the industry as a whole. You’re just throwing insults around and not actually quoting anything or adding any information to prove your point. If you have a problem with something that’s being said in the article, by all means open things up for a discussion instead of name calling. Citing statistics and numbers (hard facts) to make a call on a company’s direction is perfectly fair. This is how economists and stock brokers make a living. But because those numbers hurt your feefees and the image of your preferred company, you’re accusing the article of being unfair and unbalanced. You also conveniently chose to ignore the several times that the author stated he bears no ill will towards the company and hopes he is wrong about his predictions. So unless you have some facts to back up your claims, or care to cite specific points made in the article you disagree with, nobody is going to take you seriously.

Actually, I did read the article. At no point did I see any fair or balanced commentary on Nintendo. This is just another piece of muckraking Sony Republican propaganda for the Sony Republicans.

If they don’t release Zelda on the Wii U, I’m definitely not buying a Switch. They promised Wii U Zelda, not going to give them more money for bullshitting me. Imagine if Sony went a gen without releasing a new God of War / Uncharted or MS went a gen without releasing a new Halo / Gears.

Well, Nintendo just failed me after I invested in them from the start with the Wii U. Not doing that again, they have to prove themselves to me, not the other way around.

Ok I was missing a key piece of information. Thank you for pointing that out!

I thought the 804Mhz overclock was only for modded New 3DS systems, so I ignored it as a valid spec. I didn’t know this was officially unlocked via firmware. That does change my argument slightly.

I’m not altogether convinced of Nintendo’s intentions due to this new info. If you can overclock a 4-core ARM11, then why not the 2-Core ARM11? It’s the same chipset and the same architecture so this could be possible. Even if you could only double the clock cycles on the 2x ARM11 in the old 3DS and give it 200% increase, this would still be capable of running a SNES emulator with reasonable accuracy.

Emulators have existed on PC for about 20 years already. While the BNES guys are working to get everything perfect, they are working on X86 hardware and trying to get that experience perfect on the PC and not an ARM based system. The two architectures are so different and the 3DS has the advantage of having input controllers on board that keep input lag super low. On PC you have to really work to pass data input from USB input through the emulation software into the game and all that gets super complex so I get the BNES guys props for working hard on that stuff.

So taking those factors into account I still contend that Nintendo could have brought SNES games to older 3DS models. Maybe it was easier to do it on the new system with the overclock, but that only means they were too lazy to put the effort into optimizing the existing systems. I think is still a poor reason to lock SNES games to one model.

You seem to forget that the New 3DS CPU can run in an overlocked 804Mhz mode, that’s a 300% improvement in CPU performance.

While an SNES emulator could probably run most games well on the old 3DS, most emulators sacrifice accuracy for speed and timing differences can break games that are tuned for the original SNES hardware (especially games utilizing SuperFX acceleration).

Here’s a good read about the BNES emulator and the creators’ quest for accuracy; given Nintendo’s high standards, I don’t see why this would be surprising:
