Night School Review – Extra Credit Laughs

Comedian/Actor Kevin Hart and Film Producer Will Packer have enjoyed a ton of success in Hollywood both individually and collectively over the last several years. From Think Like a Man to Ride Along, it’s evident that the duo likes working together and entertaining audiences worldwide.

With Film Director Malcolm D. Lee at the helm, Night School is the latest from the pair but carries more weight than their previous projects. Kevin came up with the concept of the film under his HartBeat Productions company and produces alongside Packer. It’s also worth noting that Hart wrote the film with his colleagues Harry Ratchford, Joey Wells, Matt Kellard, Nicholas Stoller and John Hamburg.

Kevin Hart also steps up as producer and writer on this film making it a significant step forward for him and his HartBeat Productions company.

Night School follows the trials and tribulations of Piedmont High School dropout turned BBQ salesman Teddy Walker (Kevin Hart). After suffering a significant setback, Teddy is forced to earn his GED to better his career prospects. Upon returning to the school, he enrolls in a night course lead by Carrie (Tiffany Haddish).

While Teddy tries to take shortcuts to achieve his goals, Carrie remains firm in her teaching methods. Their conflicting views lead to both intense and comical interactions between the two. The addition of supportive, like-minded classmates further magnifies their relationship and ultimately inspires Teddy to confront his issues and strive for greater success.

Anyone who is already familiar with Kevin Hart’s signature brand of comedy won’t be disappointed by Night School as he remains in top form. The decision to include Tiffany Haddish on this project also proves to be a smart move as her comedic presence and chemistry with Kevin will keep you thoroughly entertained from start to finish.

Night School
The supporting cast oozes charm and the overarching message on second chances makes this a must see movie for any comedy fan.

For me, there are two aspects about this film that stood out the most as making it both a fun, and memorable experience. First and foremost, the supporting cast selected for this film is nothing short of outstanding. Keith David, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Romany Malco, and Fat Joe all deliver gut-busting laughs which I suspect will make them instantly more charming to the audience.

My other takeaway from this film is the overarching message on the importance of second chances and how it’s never too late to change our current circumstances despite whatever obstacles may be in the way. In the game of life, setbacks are guaranteed and often when these situations happen it could be a sign that we should be working towards something more significant. It is essential to have a strong support system in your corner and know that you are capable of achieving your dreams regardless of age or skillset. This movie illustrates that message both beautifully and realistically as the way everything ultimately plays out isn’t handled in a cliche fashion.

The on-screen chemistry between Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish is unmatched, and they definitely will appear in more movies together.

In closing, Night School was a fun comedy flick with a powerful message that will resonate with anyone who has ever contemplated bettering him or herself. Kevin Hart has proven that he can do more besides acting and this is an excellent preview into how he may handle other projects in the future. The entire cast including Tiffany Haddish will keep you laughing throughout the 111-minute runtime while also reminding you that anything is possible if you apply yourself accordingly.
