Like I said in the chat marketing will play the biggest role. Right now Nintendo is selling the switch. Before the switch launch the verdict overwhelmingly was that the switch would fail but that as not been the case mainly because Nintendo has done an awesome job of marketing and getting the attention of gamers. Nintendo has been good in retaining a constant presence most especially through the limited mini consoles and the artificial scarcity of the Switch. Xbox on the other hand as gone complacent too afraid to take risks for fear of incurring loses that could cause another reset . A lot of people are saying the budget is not there but I disagree Xbox has surpassed Windows, and as such should have the option of at least getting a better budget than Windows. Besides it is the job of the head of Xbox to convince the company of the necessary budget. I think here lies the difference between Phil and the former Xbox heads, they had big visons that required a ton and were able to convince the heads of the need for big investments.
I guess Gamescom will be the deciding factor for me, right now Nintendo looks like the clear winner as their strategy is working and their marketing is on point.

Thanks for the comment man. Just want to clear up some things.

1. The aim of the discussion wasn’t to compare the two consoles based on specs or price, just solely on the fact that they are two gaming consoles, targeted at people who play games. You say they are targeted at different audiences, which is true to a small extent, but let’s be real… People who only play Nintendo games are still gamers. Therefore there’s no reason not to compare them.

2. This is a podcast discussion, not an attempt at journalism. Yes, we do break news and report news here at The Koalition when it comes to our articles. But the discussion we had on this podcast was simply a conversation between passionate gamers. Nintendo have been doing better than we expected so I don’t see anything wrong with having this dialogue.

3. There is no bandwagon against Xbox here. We actually want them to succeed. I’m not sure if you even listened to the episode, but if you did then you’d understand that we’re not just speaking negatively on Xbox because we dislike the system. There are people on the show who own the system and want Microsoft to do better.

How is this even remotely a reasonable comparison?
two entirely different machines, for entirely different audiences, one that’s already been released at a $300 price point,versus a high-end (essentially PC equivalent)console, the first-of-its-kind, that’s hasn’t been released,that will retail for $200 more, over 60%higher cost.
The author here doesn’t really seem to understand the difference in who is targeting what audience, and the fact that it’s been stated continuously, the 1X is going to be a niche, premium, high-end product, that they don’t expect to have a really high adoption rate to begin with…
