People seem to think I like yelling at Nintendo or something when I don’t at all! I want them to fix their situation and be the company they once were!

I’m glad you enjoy our conversations but I think you completely didn’t understand the Nintendo segment. I want to thank you for being a fan and listener of this show and hope you keep enjoying it!

With that being said, I think you misunderstood almost the whole Nintendo conversation from this episode of The Throwdown.

I mentioned DKCR Tropical Freeze as just another DKC game. Nintendo is not adding anything to the DK franchise or improving it, they are just making cosmetic sequels to games Rare made in the early 90’s on SNES.

I never said I wanted the same Zelda game. Please point to the time index of the show where I said Nintendo should make a Zelda like ANY of the previous ones? I said that they need to make a new Zelda Game, a true Zelda adventure, not ham-fist Link into games he has historically appeared in like Mario Kart.

Mario Kart, like Mario Tennis or Baseball or Party, are games for the characters in the Mario universe. This has ALWAYS been the case. The fact that they are shoving Link into MK8 is just about making money and shilling the Zelda characters to do it. This kind of thing should be above Nintendo, it feels cheap and a slap in the face to Zelda fans.

Nintendo should not get a “pass” because Sony and MS engage in poor business practices from time to time. We have all called out MS for the DRM crap with XB1 and we have all railed on Sony for the launch of the PS3 and PS All-Stars. Nintendo is a much older company and they have been making video games for over 40 years (Nintendo has existed for over a century and started making Hanafuda cards in the late 19th century, fun FACT). They should not be taking pages from Sony or MS, but instead setting the standard and embracing the video game legacies they’ve built in that time.

If you think I’m making shit up, remember that I’ve done something that most fanboys only dream of and was worked at Nintendo in marketing to gamers for years. So I have a very unique perspective on their situation, and a FAR better understanding than you do or ever will.

Brett is coming from a old school gamer perspective and has been a Nintendo fan for about 3 decades. There is nothing you can slip by him about the Zelda universe, and again, he probably has played more Zelda games than you have or ever will.

You don’t understand the source of your angry talking points because you don’t have our perspective as older gamers who have been with Nintendo since the beginning of the NES. Let me say this as clear as possible:

I WANT NINTENDO TO COME BACK AND BE DOMINANT CONTENDER IN THE CONSOLE MARKET!

Now that I’ve said that, Nintendo’s decisions the past few years (Wii support, Wii U launch, lack of 3rd party support, launch lineup, etc.) has no instilled ANY confidence in me or Brett that they will survive in the console market for much longer. The reason we say things like “right the ship” and “make changes” or “FIX IT, NINTENDO” is not coming from a position of hate as most Nintendo fanboys believe it is because they are either crazy, misinformed, or both.

We make these arguments as gamers who grew up with Nintendo and loved the games and systems for many years. While I don’t think the Wii U is a good system, I still love Nintendo and I want them to do something to fix their situation.

We don’t have all the answers, but looking at even not so recent history, it seems to me that some of the higher ups and big N need to retire and they get some new blood in there. They also need to focus on key titles (yes, another Zelda, Starfox, etc.) and try to work with 3rd parties to get them back onboard, even if that means eating some crow and working with them to design a truly next-gen console.
