Honestly I’d rather them both be neck and neck (and obviously doing well). It’s better for us in the long run.

Are you sure it was to appease their fanbase? I was told by many that the only ones complaining about MS’s original vision were us Sony fanboys who weren’t going to buy an Xbox anyway. Xbox fans loved MS’s original vision and didn’t need to be appeased.

Exactly. Sony, like any other company, wants to sell more than their competitors. The only time a company would say they are not trying to lead in sales is when they know it’s impossible to beat the competition.

I disagree. MS were clearly trying to beat the PS3 with the 360 and did at first and they focused on their customers at the same time. The 360 was backwards compatible from the start all while focusing on beating Sony.

Of course not. This is no different than Sony dropping the price of the PS3 to stay competitive. It’s just business and both companies do it. When people are buying your console in droves, why drop the price? X1 is still selling well but they need to stay competitive for several reasons which I won’t list because I know you’re smart enough to know those reasons.

Given that Windows 8 was such a failure and the adoption rate compared to Windows 7 was terrible? Remember, Microsoft’s is primarily a software company. Microsoft vision changed as whole when that OS wasn’t doing well. Balmer stepped down, and Nadella is in charge now. They wanted to create one ecosystem, and the Xbox was gonna be a apart of it. That change was inevitable in my opinion.

I do agree that the price cuts was an poor attempt to catch up the the PS4, but Sony was way too far ahead.

Microsoft wanted to give Xbros a choice.

Let me ask you this. If Microsoft got their way with their initial vision for their Xbox One and it sold more than the PS4 do you think their vision would have still changed? Do you think there would have been price cuts already?

I don’t think Microsoft cares about catching up with Sony at this point. Ever since the CEO of Microsoft took over, a lot has changed. Their vision has changed. The only thing they really care about is the customer being part of their ecosystem, whether you own a Xbox or not. That’s why they’re betting on Windows 10. You do know that Xbox one is still selling well, just not on the level of the PS4 right? Why did they bring backwards compatibility? Why not? Both consoles are doing very well right now, better than last gen.
