I do also have a question for Throwdown:

Do you think a big company (Apple/Google/Samsung/Nintendo) would ever put out a nice official controller product that smartphones ‘clip’ into? Why or why not. Seem like it could be a big deal if 3DS/VITA style games were available to play on phones with a nice joystick/buttons. These things exist but none of the 3rd parties have much brand recognition or developer support.

Hey man! Thanks for the insightful comment! Wanted to touch on a few things.

People think preference equals bias. It doesn’t. You can prefer one thing over another and still be relatively neutral. While most of the panel may prefer PlayStation over Xbox, we treat both equally and have pointed out each of their strengths and weakness numerous times. The problem comes from people with an actual bias who interpret what we say on the podcast through a narrow fanboy filter. Do we make jokes that could be seen as mean spirited or uncalled for? Of course. We’re here to entertain people at the end of the day. But folks like you understand what we’re doing and that nobody on the show has a horse in the race or takes any of this console war bs seriously.

As far as the whole console war stuff is concerned, this is where things get a bit muddled. I’ve never talked about this on air or here in the comments section, but it is a subject I have discussed with the Throwdown crew many times.

The fact is that our listeners LIKE the drama of the console wars. Any episode where we discuss anything related to the console wars, we get a lot of hits and listens. Whenever we have done more positive or upbeat eps, the hits have plummeted. For example. We did a Thanksgiving episode where the main topic was about things in gaming we were thankful for. It tanked. We also did one about the games that have left a legacy. Also bombed. Our fans like to hear console war drama or just anything sensational in general so we give it to them. We don’t manufacture things but I do try to cater the show to the majority of the listeners. Also, for the sake of being honest, I personally like calling people who are full of shit out so this works for both sides (mostly).

As for the time length, I generally try to keep the shows to around two hours. Doing this for so long, we’ve figured that was the sweet spot for both fans and us. Whenever we’ve done short shows (an hour or less) we don’t get much reception. However, the “super shows” (ones that last over 2 and half hours or even longer) usually bring in a ton of hits. We can’t do monster episodes twice a week (we do have shit to do lol) and since anything shorter than an hour 30 isn’t received well, we go for 2 hours. We’ll occasionally toss in a monster episode here and there but in general expect 2 hour shows from us.

As for the arguing, we generally do try to leave it in the comments but when someone like Dameon comes in here talking all of that shit, we’re putting him on blast. We do this with developers, publishers, and media who spout nonsense so, as we’ve stated in the past, no one is safe from us. lol
