As a follow-up, I’d also like to add that I’m aware that some of the lack of options I mentioned may be because it’s technically not possible, or maybe possible but not good for business. Because if it were that simple to make everything you want in the game up-to-date, it can potentially prolong the replay value of a series that depends on its customers upgrading every year. Stuff like that is why sports gaming for PC is dead; it’s so simple to mod the game to be up-to-date. EA Sports’ MVP Baseball series gets updated every year by talented and dedicated modders, which is great given that the series discontinued long ago. But it goes to show how much that can prolong a sports game’s life. THQ does a great job bringing the wrestling experience to your video game console, but they leave enough for you to be wanting more, and that may be by design. So I just wanted to clarify that I’m not looking at THQ as being absent-minded about these things or anything like that. Oh, and I meant to say that I think 7 out of 10 is a fair assessment.

As for the review, real talk. Much respect. I’m pretty OCD when it comes to the details in sports games. Used to spend hours on CAW’s, customizing ring attire, move sets, entrances, all that. I want my game as accurate and customizable as possible, and there are some things about this game that fall short in the department which bother me enough to give pause. You can’t change entrance music with an mp3 of your own, so you can forget about Dolph Ziggler’s Here To Show The World or Cody Rhodes’ new Smoke & Mirrors themes. I’m also disappointed by not being able to pick a different wrestler for the three RTWM modes. And not being able to deactivate wrestlers is also annoying.

Understanding that most people may not be as nitpicky as I am, I still would recommend picking up this game, with hope that THQ builds off of it for an even better ’13 version this time next year.

Yes, you make good points but this is a far better upgrade over the previous game than, say, NHL 12 over NHL 11. Even the Madden this year is not such a big upgrade.

The modified combat system makes the game fresh and that alone warrants a buy from any serious or casual players.

At least the series is going in the right direction and has addressed dozens of the major fan complaints from previous years.

This is the best upgrade since 2006 for sure. Best of all time? Debatable.
