At this point it’s the middle of the pack, behind 1and 3, ahead of 2 and Ninja Theory’s DMC.

Personally it is my second favorite after the first game, but I can recognize how excessively well crafted 3 is.

I’m beginning to think the rash of remasters is a way for companies to get a low cost gauge of interest out there. They don’t have to front the cost of a long dev cycle, which allows them to subsidise larger projects. The releases also act as the proverbial canary in the coal mine, if it dies they can say “well we guess folk don’t want more of X” -which is dumb, SquEnix did the same thing when people asked about continuing the Chrono franchise “the (low) sales for the DS re-release don’t justify a full fledged sequel at this time. ” remarkably short sighted.

As for DMC 4, I’m excited as I enjoyed it a great deal. In a perfect world the special edition remaster would be the first game, but hey I can dream. It’s not like we’ll see Capcom working with Platinum Games to get a real DMC sequel to happen.
