Square Enix has confirmed this news and released the following statement:
“Yes, Microsoft will be publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox. Microsoft has always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and they will get behind this game with more support across development, marketing and retail than ever before, which we believe will be a step in continuing to build the Tomb Raider franchise as one of the biggest in gaming.”

Late last night, Aaron Greenberg dropped a bomb on Twitter that will surely raise a ton of questions on the timed exclusivity status of Rise of the Tomb Raider. When asked by a fan who is publishing this highly anticipated title, the Head of Marketing for Xbox Games stated that Microsoft is now taking over these duties. The controversial tweet is conveniently embedded below for you all to check out:

The timing of this news is very interesting considering that Sony made headlines just a few days ago when they confirmed that Street Fighter V will be exclusive to both PlayStation 4 and PC. Phil Spencer was also quoted yesterday as saying he would make amends for Street Fighter V not coming to the Xbox One. While Microsoft has yet to officially announce this news in a press release, it does seem highly likely that a deal like this can definitely get done.
The last game that Microsoft published prior to it ending up on a Sony console was the original Mass Effect. Similarly, Dead Rising 3 was an Xbox One timed console exclusive that is now readily available for those who want to play it on PC. It’s more than likely that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be treated the same, but it is currently unclear if this game will ever come to the PS4. My best guess is that we will find out more about this hot topic sooner rather than later.
Rise of the Tomb Raider launches on both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 late next year.
