Is The FIFA Series Still The Global Powerhouse It Once Was?

The FIFA video game series is one of the world’s biggest to have ever been released. While people may not have been fans of football, they’d know exactly what the game franchise was all about and will likely have played a session or two with their friends or family.

Indeed, while it may not have been the only football-based game available to buy, it was always considered the pinnacle of the niche. Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer series was perhaps the closest a rival got to EA Sports’ top spot, but they found it difficult to consistently remain alongside their competitors.

It’s unsurprising that the video game franchise had so much success during its heyday, especially with football being one of the biggest and most loved sports globally. Billions around the world are thought to watch it, with millions playing the game in countries all over the world. In addition, many are also known to gamble on the sport. They like to place bets on the matches, and they have used an odds calculator to work out their returns, enhancing the experiences and passion that they can get for the sport.

The FIFA series has entered a new era, with a decision for football’s governing body and EA Sports to go in a different direction. The two couldn’t come to an agreement regarding the licensing, meaning that we could have two different options to choose from once they both hit the market.

EA FC Franchise

Following the disagreement regarding the license, EA Sports have been the game studio that has been able to act first. They created the EA FC franchise, with EA FC 24 being its debut release.

The ride since its release hasn’t been the smoothest, as there were initial problems when it was first brought out. Bugs had plagued the gameplay in various ways, while some criticized the lack of differentiation that is possible to experience with this game from previous FIFA releases in the past. In fact, some suggest that the release was ‘safe’ and just a ‘rebrand’ of the games that had been released before, without the backing of FIFA.

Enthusiasts of the video game franchise will have been pleased that they were still able to enjoy the same gameplay and play many of the same modes that were available in previous iterations. But, with the game arguably remaining the same, has it reached its ceiling?

FIFA’s video game series

While it will carry the name and give gamers the ability to choose an alternative football game that they haven’t quite been able to enjoy since the end of PES, especially with eFootball being branded a huge flop, there will be intrigue about how the new FIFA games will look.

There hasn’t been much by way of rumors regarding how this game could look or who it could be developed alongside, although the 2K Games franchise (which are known for doing other sports) has been touted as a potential studio that could be used.

It could be a huge risk, but it’s likely to give players the opportunity to try something new. FIFA has the brand name and will keep it, which could help them immediately when a game is released, but it will all come down to how good and immersive the gameplay is, as this is what will keep gamers engaged and wanting to play.
