Nintendo Switch 2 Price Will Climb To $500 in U.S. Starting This Fall

Real life is getting expensive and now so is escapism. Nintendo is increasing the price of its Switch 2 console across territories, that’ll increase the cost to $499.99 in the U.S. starting September 1st. Original priced at $449.99, this increase is set off by the additional increased memory and storage costs in the gaming and tech industry.

Outside the United States, the Switch 2 will increase in Japan (59,980 yen vs. 49,980 yen), Canada ($679.99 vs. $629.99) and Europe (499.99 euros vs. 469.99 euros). The price change in Japan will begin on May 25th, while Canada and Europe’s increases are set to change in the fall.

Nintendo is also increasing the price of its Nintendo Switch Online subscription in Japan, with plans to also raise the price in South Korea.

“We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding,” Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said in a statement Friday.

Nintendo’s latest earnings results include the Switch 2 selling 19.86 million units as of the end of March. Over the past year, Nintendo says the original Switch console has sold 3.8 million units. Nintendo states it sold 48.71 million Switch 2 games and 136.91 million Switch games over the past 12 months.

Overall revenue increased 98.6% over the past fiscal year (March 31, 2025-March 31, 2026). For the current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2027) Nintendo projects an 11.4% decrease in sales.

“Nintendo Switch 2 got off to a good start following its launch in June 2025,” Nintendo said. “We aim to maintain the momentum for the hardware and see it delivered together with software into the hands of a wide range of consumers. For Nintendo Switch 2, we plan to release Yoshi and the Mysterious Book in May, Star Fox in June, and Splatoon Raiders in July. We intend to work to expand our Nintendo Switch 2 business by continuously introducing new titles while maintaining interest in previously released titles. Other software publishers also plan to release a range of titles.”
