With Nintendo announcing a new console, it has put the pressure on rival companies Sony and Microsoft to follow up with a new platform. Whilst I’m sure most of us aren’t ready to move on to a new generation yet, it has been a good five years since this generation begun, which means it is time to start reviewing the possibilities of new tech. Well Sony CFO Masaru Kato explained an increase in R&D costs to investors, by noting that Sony has been working on the next console.
“For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life, but this is a platform business, so for the future platform – when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that – but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there,” he stated.
No doubt Sony will stick to it’s ten year life-cycle for Playstation 3, as they have still managed to be consistent with the Playstation 2 even to this day. However I hope we don’t get these new consoles too soon, as I still think we haven’t reached the max potential of this current console generation. As always share your thoughts with us.
