Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a follow up to 2009’s Final Fantasy XIII, taking place three years after the original story. The storyline is almost a reversal as this time around Lightning, the protagonist of the original game, has disappeared into an unknown world and her sister Serah is the one seeking her. After the first game suffered extreme displeasure from many die-hard Final Fantasy fans, Square Enix have been adamant on ensuring that this sequel will satisfy us. It’s not often that individual editions in the Final Fantasy series get sequels, the furthest they usually go is creating spin-offs – but seeing as the plot of Final Fantasy XIII was actually pretty sophisticated this is a welcomed sequel for me. Fans can expect a more evolved battle system than the previous game, as well as more exploration of the environments (which was a huge complaint in XIII).
As a huge fan of these games, I must say things are looking good from what I have seen thus far. The game was released in Japan December 15th 2011 so if you don’t mind running into spoilers you can do some digging for impressions. A demo will also be released on January 11th.
